Default Elbe River Cruises April

Understand the Elbe levels can vary greatly. Anyone take this river cruise in the month of April (seems summer can be worse) our plan is Apr 7, 2019 from Berlin to Prague. Hearing of so many river cruises on the have turned into bus trips (expensive bus trip) but if/when that has happened, have people been able to still see the places they intended to see?

Obviously, the weather can vary greatly, so there are times when the water level is going to be higher than others and yet sometimes when it's lower.

We were suppose to take a Christmas Market cruise a few years ago, but had to cancel at the last minute due to a medical emergency. But I kept track of it with our friends that went without us. Because of a lack of snow in the mountains, the run-off was not what it should be and they had to take alot of bus tours that were not scheduled.

Another time, we had clients on a river cruise and due to an abnormally high rainfall, they had to change boats in the middle of their cruise, because they couldn't go under the bridges.

Keep in mind that the old saying about 'April showers bring May flowers' is very true.

We did a river cruise in April out of Amsterdam and while that should have been the case, it wasn't. They didn't get much rain and the flowers bloomed later than normal. Sucked for us!

Unfortunately, weather is one of the occasional problems you run into with river cruises that has more of an impact that it does on ocean cruises. So, you have two choices; either just go with it, plan accordingly, and have a great time no matter what. Or, you can change your cruise to a less rainy time.

Good luck!
