If it was me, I would wear it, but would sit on a level above the pool, where not a lot of people walk. That's how I saw people do it on my first cruise, and it didn't bother me. I have 3 kids, and the older 2 would notice it, my son would have a field day pointing and grinning, but it's nothing they've not seen before. But a lot of people could get offended, and I don't know that I'd like to be a public spectacle, so I'd probably just get sun in a slightly less-traffic area. Even though I don't have a thong body, I'm all for the all-over tan(just for me, it's the tanning booth!!) JMHO

I am a Christian and an American. I don't
consider thongs to be indecent. Humorous yes. Unattractive yes. But i believe people should have the freedom to wear a thong if they so desire. I also feel women should be able to go topfree anywhere men can if they so choose. Exiling them to the top optional deck is a slap in the face to all women and equal rights. Keep the genitalia covered up but any other part of the human body should be be a personal choice. |

Most of the argumentative postings I see on these boards have to do with individual rights as opposed to avoiding offending the majority. My feeling is that the person who posted the question regarding the question is going to wear a thong with minimal encouragement despite what anyone else says.

I didnt know the cleavers were booked on the cruise ship. For god sakes people if you dont like what people are wearing dont look. You wear what you want and dont worry about what someone else is wearing. The ones that want to go topless or wear a thong so be it just dont be one that complains that people are looking at you. Those of you whom are worried about your kids looking, It probably isnt the first time they have seen anything like that and it definatly wont be the last have fun enjoy the sun and most of all lets get along.

I personally do not care if one chooses to wear a thong to the pool. But to those who do , be prepared for stares and snickers from others around you. Chances are that is the attention you are hoping for anyway. All I know is that if my 6 year old and 3 year old see your naked behind, they are going to giggle and sing a little song" I see London, I see France, I see her underpants." Hope you have a sense of humor. Enjoy your cruise.

I am sailing on the Conquest March 21 with my 12 year old son and 7 year old daughter. I have not worn my thong bikinis with out my little back dress (not sure of the actual name, but it makes it look like you are wearing a skirt instead) on cruises. I have Venus swimsuits and they have matching back dresses and maybe you could still get one in time if you chose a little more coverage. I have been on 2 Caribbean cruises and have not seen one thong bikini yet. I myself don't feel comfortable that exposed in front of my children or anyone elses, and at this time of year, there are lots of kids cruising. I use it more for tanning @ home. Good luck and have fun! Only a couple more days to go!

Everyone else wears a sport coat if they don't have a suit. I don't see any thing wrong with you wearing a thong since you don't have any another suits. It's your vacation wear what you like and don't get upset if I check it out. By the way, Fungal, just for informational purposes, could you please post a pic of you modeling this thong?

Interesting thread. Assuming Texasfungal is indeed a gal, I'd say you'll have no problem whatsoever wearing thong swimsuits, although you may very well be the only one. For guys I'd say it's a different story; you'll need a pretty thick skin if you venture away from the topless deck in a thong.
One thing to consider, if you start the party, others may very well join you. I just noticed that Texasfungal is already on her cruise. Let us know how it went when you get back! Andy |

All I can say is, "YOU GO GIRL!" I'm going on the Fantasy in April, and my hubbie is encouraging me to wear a thong... he's convinced I have the bod for it, but I'm not so confident. If you are, you have every right to be proud! After all, you're not wearing it for the benefit of anyone else but yourself! If it makes you feel good, that's what's important. If parents are offended, then they should probably have considered that possibility when they booked on Carnival... isn't that what they promote Disney Cruises for (children)?
Have fun! |

Here's the thing, folks... Just because you "have the body" for a thong doesn't mean the whole world wants to see your butt hanging out in the breeze.

May I get on my soap box on the LIDO deck and preach a sermon on chastity and virtue? If I do, you would probably be offended. The constitution allows free speech. Just because it is "legal" to walk around looking very sleezy does not mean that ok to do so. People, including myself and my children are offended if you are scene in public wearing a thong. Why would it be ok for you to expose most of your nakedness in public and say it's not my business and I can't get on my soap box and preach a sermon on the lido deck without offending you.

Have been reading a lot of posts here with much interest. Seems the friends we cruised with last Sept, had bet that I wouldn't buy, much less wear, a thong while on vacation. Well, I bought one. When we got to our private beach in Jamaica, I put it on and swam in it. They cried "fowl" since it was a private beach. So, on Saturday, the last sea-day on the Conquest, I had the thing on when I was on the Lido deck. Climbed the stairs, and went down the water slide. Then I put the "regular" swimsuit back on. I didn't hear any snickers or guffaws, but there sure were some when I viewed the video my wife took. P.S. I'm not female.

American cultural norms?
Whose American Cultural norms? Are you planning on enforcing American cultural norms on foreign beaches when you go on the excursions? Please dont claim to speak for all Americans I live in South Florida(the english speaking part) and thongs are acceptable unless you are selling hot dogs(no Im not kidding). I would advise that the thong should only be worn on the sun deck and a nice sarong should be used to cover up off the deck. Children? I was 12 when I was travelling in france and germany and saw topless women at the beach....they dont tell under 18 children to get off the beach. They tell them to get over it. If you are travelling in other countries with children and have not yet had this talk with your children...you are WAY overdue. Topless beaches are the norm in many western countries. HOWEVER that being said I personally dont want to see 1) Guys in thongs- not because its indecent but because guys have weiners and thongs dont hide them enough. Most thongs hide the girls parts just fine. 2) Fat people in thongs...thats just wrong. I also dont find thongs on a woman particularly alluring. As for kissing and PDAs.... I would hold to the same standard for same-sex as mixed-sex kissing. People dont want to see people in general making out in public because it makes them feel miserable that they dont have someone to make out with. Its like being that jerk when he was 9 years old was showing off his toys in front of the poor kids who didnt have any toys. Im being serious here, even if youre not being offensive respect the feelings of others by finding a secluded spot to make out in and dont smack your lips when you do it...it sounds like your chewing your food with your mouth open. A quick peck is fine. Honeymooners romantically kissing get a free pass as do senior citizens just because its so funny. |

"Whose American Cultural norms?"
Those of the majority of the passengers, I suppose. "Are you planning on enforcing American cultural norms on foreign beaches when you go on the excursions?" When in Rome... "I live in South Florida(the english speaking part) and thongs are acceptable..." I live on North Florida, and most respectable people here don't wear them. I was just looking at the rules for a water park that's about an hour away from where I live (I go there to "play" regularly during the summer). One of the rules, according to their Web site, is: Traditional swimwear is required. No denim/blue jeans allowed. No provocative, thong or G-string swimsuits, clothing with rivets, buckles, belts or metal ornaments. No long pants or cut-off shorts. No oversized or baggy clothing that cannot remain at or above the waistline without a belt or other support. This doesn't seem to create an undue burden, to me. Don't know why such rules might not also apply on a ship. "I was 12 when I was travelling in france and germany..." But the ship isn't France and Germany. Here's the way I look at it... No one will be offended if you DON'T wear a thong. However, quite a few people may be offended if you DO wear one. It's no large inconvenience to cover that butt up, so why shouldn't we do it out of consideration for others on the ship? The attitude I'm seeing (and I'm not talking specifically about you) seems to be mostly that of selfishness. If you're comfortable in a thong, wear one--who cares if it bugs other people? Well, I think we *should* care if our actions bug other people, at least as much as we reasonably can. As I said before, I'm most comfortable with no clothes on whatsoever. That doesn't make it appropriate on a ship, though. |

Wear what you want.
Have fun. enjoy your vacation. If someone is up-set with your attire, God bless them. They are fortunate in not having any problems to worry about. Most of us have other issues that are a lot more important. TM
