Default Is Carnival still a "party boat"

I hope i don't offend any Carnival fans with this post. I traveled on the Victory and the Triumph, each, when they first came out, for two separate three day cruises. Having traveded on Celebrity previously, I found the Carnival ships to be just too frantic for my taste. I like to have an active good time while cruising but the Carnival ships seemed almost like a drunken "spring break" to me. Some say that the short cruises are more prone to this type behavior. Others claim that Carnival has cleaned up it's image and the sailings are less "FUN SHIP" and are more "laid back".
I am considering another Carnival Cruise, to Mexico, and would like to hear peoples thoughts. Jimbo

We went on our first cruise this Jan on the Carnival Conquest. I did not get any kind of party vibe from it at all. It was not like a spring break party. In fact after about 9pm there was nobody to be found out on deck. It was like a ghost town.

I would definately go on Carnival again but I want to try Princess or Royal Caribbean next.

Try to go when schools and colleges are in. Also, try the 7-day cruises if possible. I've always had the motto ,"you can do as little as you want, or as much as you can."
We go on a cruise to relax, and enjoy the break away from our daily grind.

The Conquest or the Inspiration are 2 great ships.

Happy Cruising;

We just sailed the Paradise on 6/17 to Ensenada, a 3 day cruise, and did not experience that at all. There were no newlywed couples that we heard about but many familes with children of all ages, and many couples 50 y/o and up. We did not hear any noise in the halls after midnight. It seemed to us a lot of people stayed on the ship while docked in Ensenada because the pool area was busy.

If you go on a 7 or 8 day cruise on Carnival, it won't be so frantic. The 3, 4, and 5 day cruises are more party cruises. On our 8 day Spirit cruise to the Exotic Western Caribbean, we actually had chamber music for one of our sail away parties. That's right, a Cello, a Violin and a piano. Then, when we tried to get the CD's attention, we were "shushed".

I just came back from Imagination 5 day cruise and there was hardly any partying at all. As a matter of fact, I went on RCL last summer and there was much more partying going on. I was pleasantly surprised and pleased with my frist Carnival cruise. It was just as good as RCL in my opinion, and with less partying. I just think it all depends on which cruise you hit.....not on the cruise line itself.

Traveled on Triumph out of Norfolk, va in june full cruise 6 day and a full boat. Was as normal (our 5th cruise) not a wild party but a fun time. Most of the people especially in big groups police themselves. can be different at the ports people having fun. you make out of it WHAT YOU WANT. ENJOY AND BE HAPPY

I agree with all the posts, it depends on what time of the year you cruise, regardless of the cruise line and on a longer cruise there seems to be more families and large groups of people in their 30's and 40's traveling together and having a great time. Also, because there are no more huge midnight buffets every night, the late crowd seems to gather in the casino, piano bar and disco.

Thanks to all who responded, I think it's time for us to try Carnival again. The new ships seem beautiful, the cabins are large, and you cannot beat Carnival prices.

I have always considered ANY 3 or 4 day cruise on any line party-time boats and they often are. This is the reason that my wife and I pretty much stick to at least 5 day and preferable 7 day or more cruises. They are much more laid back and more to our liking. CCL has always been pretty good with us on the longer cruises.

Cruising is what u make of it. If u want it to be a party ship u jsut go have a party. There is plenty of places that u can find a quiet place to jsut chill out too. I have been on many carnival cruises and i have found many people having a great time dancing and drinking. That is becasue thats waht they want to do. That doesnt mean I have to do that too. Just go and have a ball. Life is what we all make of it ourselves. Happy cruising...

I thought Holland American was the "party" boat and Carnival was for old folks (smile)..on any given week, on any given cruise line, subject to the passengers on board, any ship or any line could be a "party" boat

The 3 days crusies are usually the party trips, and the longer ones are more of a vacation trip. Our 3 day on Carnival was a total party atmosphere, and the 7 day on the Pride was more mellow. We enjoyed our 7 day much more and we are young and like to have fun. The 3 day was a little to much even for us.

The 5 night cruises are better as any cruise just over a weekend - the 3 night cruises - tend to be more of a party. We go early May late April and most of the ship was older people - one little girl in line to check in (one about 10 kids on whole cruise) peeked up and said "They are all Old People on the boat"... haha She was looking at my 42 year old hubby!!! Even he thought it was funny - most people were 60s and 70s on that cruise. It was on the Esctasy out of Galveston. Time of year and length of cruise. Have a wonderful time - and try Carnival once more on an off time of year (no spring break, thankgiving, Christmas, New Year, or summer) on a longer cruise and see what you think... Debbie

we have only cruised once, but I didn't find the Holiday to be raucos. I know she is an older ship, but there were some having more of a "social" time than others, but it is what you make of your cruise. we were a group of 11 and we don't drink and think I tend to be a bit raucos at times, becaue I love to have fun. I am 52 (told I don't look it) and young 20 somethings wanted me to dance with them. I loved it. I can see where the shorter cruises could be a bit more frantic, you have to squeeze in as much fun as you can in a short time. there were people who were a bit " fuzzed", but they didn't bother us. It was their cruise too. We are booking another cruise on Carnival for November and June 2006. We are hooked!!!

Funny, our 7 day cruise on the Glory was much more of a party cruise than our 3 day on the Fantasy! I think sometimes it depends as much on the time of year and the crowd onboard as it does anything.

The deck party on the 7 day Glory was WILD!!

But the answer to your question is Carnival still the party ship, is no - fun ship, yes.
