Default Norwegian Epic, for the most part extra cost

I was comparing Oasis of the Seas and Norwegian Epic and after reading about many extra covers and charges on the Epic wanted to do some math. For the better part it's the most extra charge ship I've ever seen. This is only public rooms so there will be additional included activities and additional charges for wine tastings etc but half of the public rooms are extra charge. An additional eight features are in the much expanded Villas section or only for the Studio room guests. I'm not sure of this ship... Lots of innovation with a batting cage, repelling wall, ice bar but many charges.

17 public features are included & for everyone
38 %

25 public features are additional charges

8 features are private for certain guests

52 % of the public rooms and amenities are additional , more than half

45 TOTAL public amenities (counting bars as one)

3 Waterslides
2 Rock Climbing & Repelling Walls
Sports Complex
Epic Theater & Blue Man Group
Spiegl Tent & Cirque Dinner Experience (cover charge)

Interesting way to look at it. Another way may be the number of free options that for the most part is the same as any ship. The fact there are many specialty restaurants versus one or two on other lines skews your view.

Like any ship plenty of free dining and entertainment options. The plus side is all the options at a cost for those that want to take advantage of them.

You are right more pay options then any other ship but no other ship has nearly as many options free or not.

I am not quite sure what you point is: there are the usual free options like most ships. As Shoreguy said, the extra charge dining isn't any different than any other line, there are just many more options.

At first I wasn't sure if we would cruise the Epic, but now I really want to give her a shot. Because seems pretty contempory we probably will only do it once, we like a certain amout of tradition and yet I feel this will be the tread of most of the new ships coming out in the next 5 years. Certainly if she is successful other lines will follow.

I have read that the food in the included restaurants is as good as most other ship specialty restaurants. Also the free (3 shows) are exceptional compared to other ships. We are cruising on the Epic on July 24th and know it will not be cheap! Mimi
