If you were given a three day pre-cruise port city stay, as a gift, in a hotel but you had to pay for your own local restaurants - which would you choose?

My choice is not on the list...Lauderdale. For us, this is an extension of our cruise, be it, pre or post..so much to see and do, inclussding seeing friends and family. Love this city!

Well, I didn't want to list every port city there is.... I sort of assumed people who like South Florida might pick Miami - so I will make say both.

New Orleans. Amazing food and music, and it is a very easy place to get around on foot.

I too would choose Fort Lauderdale if it was listed.....not a big fan of Miami but I would still stay in Lauderdale and catch a car to Miami port.

I think we all like Nola.
I went to Galveston for the first time a couple months ago, but unfortunately I had NO time at all to see it. But I have to say it didn't come close to NOLA as a city experience. A lot of cruise lines are moving to Port of Houston, because it is a more convenient for transfer from the airport. I think the airport to Galveston ride was almost 90 minutes! Houston is about half as bad as I recall. |

Paris, I know it is not a port city but that is what I thought of when i saw the topic of this thread. Rome and Tokyo would also be great if i needed to choose an embarkation port.

Really? Its about $80 to ride to Miami and an hour. I understand you liking Ft Lauderdale better (I like them both) but I am surprised you like Ft L. That much better.

Our "Free Cabin" cruise on a Breeze we flew to Miami and it was fine but I do like FT Lauerdale . SouthWest from Chicago doesn't fly to Miami only FLL. |

It is true that Southwest is often cheaper (although not as much as it used to be. I live in PHX so I have been around SW a long time).
I do not care for the hotels in Miami much, mostly due to location. The ones by the hotel are in the middle of nowhere and the ones downtown are in questionable neighborhoods. But Miami does have a nice hotel right at the airport which is not too expensive and very convenient. |
