Single 40yr old man considering first cruise

Hello!

I was wondering if you might be able to help, as I'm sure many of you have the inside track when it comes to cruising!

Basically, I'm a single 40yr old man, considering a cruise of a week or so next year. I've enjoyed having a look on the internet at different cruise lines, ships and itineraries, but I feel a bit blinded by all the choice. I do know that I am keen to avoid the Spring Break/Frat Boy young 20s scene, and while I enjoy the company of all ages, it would be great to have some lively nightlife with people my own age. I'm quite comfortable in black tie for a few evenings, but also happy with a less formal set up.

Must-haves: Reasonable price / single supplement, Good food, decent drinking options (pre-dinner/post-dinner/late), live music, big screen movies, outdoor pool, gym/exercise studio, activities where I can meet other travellers quite easily (e.g. wine tasting/food or cocktail making classes), coffee lounge where I can lose myself in a book/kindle. Casino would be cool too but not quite a must-have.

Can live without: Spa, rock-climbing / kids activities / Wifi / shopping

Budget: Ideally under $1200 for just the cruise.

Given you're new at this, I highly suggest you talk to a reputable Cruise Specialist, as they will be able to assist you with finding the perfect cruise for you given your needs, lifestyle, and budget.

Also, they can provide information on ships that offer studio cabins (cabins for 1 person without a single supplement charge) or those that don't have studio cabins, where you'll have to pay a single supplement, which would almost double your cost.

And lastly, their expertise can be invaluable, especially when they don't charge any fees and can help find you the best rates.
