Default So, how did your cruise work out?

We have a great community of people looking for Cruisemates, and, over the years it has gotten to be quite a popular to find companions.

I was wondering how you fared if you made a connection here, and, also, if you might share some tips you learned along the way, to make new posters aware of the process...thanks

Trip, several months ago I posted on the subject of a female cruising platonicaly with male. Received many responses, about half in Email form. All interesting, none threatening in any way. Main thread came down to communication, information by the parties. Bring it up again if you wish.

Not exactly a tip, as I've not pursued a roommie, but not closed to the idea. I make it a point to look at the section and I find it crazy to see people dig deep into the archives, don't look at the posting date, yet answer the post like it was current.
Some postings are nice and clear as to what they are seeking, others just say nothing.
Then, there is the one time poster, never to be heard from again, nor even bothered to get on line again. This happened to me once. I'm the nosey type, go to the stats area to find things out, how many posts and what the posts say.
For those who have not discovered this section, just click on the user name, it's interesting.
Anyway, for those who have made a connection, it would be polite to let us know with a follow up post. Us inquiring minds want to know.

Have share 4 previous cruises with compatible ladies. Never met them in person until boarding the ship. Exchanged pictures, many e-mails and some phone calls. I'm having brain freeze! Don't remember. Booked solo so far for Ecstasy in Nov, the one to Key West. Some great prices!! (at least when I booked). Toyed with SUN, but it hasn't grabbed me yet.

hi there... i am having a very difficult time locating a cruise mate on your site....the postings are not in chronological order...and are all mixed in with bloggers, silly stories etc. I think you should have a category that is strictly for cabin mate searches....with categories of, an example... transatlantic.... mediterranean.....carribean, etc. I find that the site is more of bloggers, questions, sharing stories.. and not really targeting toward single cruissers who want to share cabins???? just a suggesiton! :-)

I've never met a match here to my surprise despite this being a cruise website. I did meet cruisemates on other dating sites where I advertised for a cruisemate. The people I met werre cruise veterans compared to me who is newbie. (This was a regular dating site, not for cruisemates)

I got along great with my cruisemates. I'm neat, polite and considerate and so were the people I met. So no problems. Sometimes we did things together and sometimes we gave each other space. I would say 80% of the tme we hung out. I'm a SBM both my roomies were SWF's. Not what I expected for roommates, but saving money is saving money.

My advice would be to talk on the phone and get to know each other. Both times the people I met were from another state and the first time we physically met was the first day of the cruise. We exchanged pics and spoke on the phone 6 or 7 times over a 3 week period getting to know one another. That made things so much easier.

I am a happily married WF and would love to book a 7-night Caribbean cruise this summer. I agree it's kinda hard to maneuver through, but thought I'd just throw that out there. If you're interested I'll send more info. I take it that you are a female, right?

Were the websites you used all DATING websites or is there another option out there for people just looking for someone to share a cabin with?

A co-worker told me about this site. I did an ad and got two replies. Neither worked out due to scheduling. That same person told me to do an ad on craigslist and match.com Craigs worked for me. We were both from different states. I went on two cruises with the person. But we have lost contact now.

I think this thread ought to be "sticky", just to help out the newcomers.

I didn't discover Cruisemates until this spring; I answered a couple of posts for partners but they didn't work out. However, as a result of them two people contacted me, and one I just did a week with, very amicably. We met for the first time on the way to the ship. We're 15 years apart in age, and have some different interests and opinions, but spent more time together on the cruise than I had expected. I'd happily cruise with her again (she'll have to post her own opinion, in the reverse direction!)

I do appreciate the posts that imply whether or not I'd get along with the person. Generally it's good to expect that you're sharing the cabin, and anything else is a bonus. I did not and will not answer any that say "love to party!" or that include pictures of the person, just because I'm probably not what the poster is looking for.

Odd, they made it a sticky, and it seems to be being ignored now, lol

I'd wondered about that; for a while I was afraid I'd poisoned it, or something.

Since my last posting here I've scheduled another cruise with a different lady, hoping it will work out as well.

I am so glad things are working out for people here.

Just for the record, CruiseMates was started as a place for people to meet before a cruise on the same ship, but it was not meant to be solely a place for people who needed roommates.

It turned out, however, that a lot of people have come here looking for this and this is what they have found. I am so glad for you people who have made new friends here who can share your passion for cruises. It is not an inexpensive hobby, and being honest, having the right company makes a big difference.

Personally, I do not like to cruise alone. I don't mind have having a cabin to myself but I prefer to know I will have company for dinners especially. I do snore and have roomed with others who snore, but earplugs and eye masks work great for me. I have no problems getting along with roommates, and it sure helps to save money.

For me CM has been good and not so good but there is no point to bring up the past.

I am thankful that being on CM gave me the opportunity to get to know and become good friends off line with TM and his wife.
I have also had the opportunity to become friends with some people who no longer post here ,Tom and Angie ,Todd and Venice .
I have had telephone conversations with several other people and have become e-mail friends with others such as LuAnne Russo .

Default Hawaiian Cruise

Did the Golden Princess 14 day Hawaiian cruise in January, 2011. Had an inside cabin with FOUR people!!! It was like a college dorm room, but the price was so low!!! This cruise was one of the most fun cruises ever!!! Only knew one of my cabin mates before the cruise. We rented a car on most of the Hawaiian Islands and all shared the cost, saw so much of the sights. Shared a lot and did our own things...

Before 9/11, A number of the cruise lines would line up cabin mates for the singles cruisers, That was so nice and easy back then. Have found three people at Cruise Mates to share about ten cruise with so far...

Hello again! I'm just back from my third cruise with a Cruisemates cabin-sharer, this time a transatlantic on Princess from Ft. Lauderdale to Southhampton. Again, I'd have to call it a success.

This time my partner shared more of my interests than the previous ones had; we played trivia and attended a number of shipboard entertainments together. She did like to watch TV in bed, but I'm the kind who can sleep through anything. And then she usually slept late in the morning, but that just meant that we never had any bathroom conflict. The only real problem was that this was her first transatlantic, and she decided that the six days from Florida to Ponta Delgada was too many away from land, so I'll have to find someone else to do a TA westbound in the fall.

I've heard from a couple of people and one of them was a possibility but just not enough lead time before the cruise for me to make plans. I'm hoping to make a connection with someone so a cruise will happen. Hate this single supplement fee stuff and I'm seeing others in the same boat as me. Well, maybe something will materialize and we'd be on that boat together and actually get to go somewhere instead of just dreaming about it and getting frustrated about it. Hoping...

Default Cruise Mate cabin sharing

Before 9/11 it was easy to share a cabin, The cruise lines would find a cabin mate for you and no single supplement involved. Since then, have found a number of people through Cruise Mates to share a cabin with. Only one clinker in all that time. Will meet another Cruise Mate; Bryan to share a Transatlantic cruise on board the RCCL this May 3rd, 2012. We have e-mailed and talked on the phone. I'm sure it will be a fun cruise to England!!!

Hi Trip!
I used cruisemates.com a couple years ago. I was so lucky to be able to do a double cruise trip that year. I found a roomy for each cruise with this site. We started with messages in the public area, then private messages, and when we were comfortable, we shared email addresses. As we became more comfortable, we then shared phone calls.
I met my first roomy on board Celebrity Summit. We had a great time. We then had an over-night at a San Juan hotel where I met my roomy for Adventure of the Seas; another 7 night cruise beginning the next day. We had a great time too. We shared some pictures of each other in emails and some in facebook.

I have found this site now to be a bit more confusing. I eventually found the Seeking Cruise Companion section again. Maybe it's just me, but things seem to be set up a bit differently.

I've seen an ad from a poster who was in here 2 years ago. I replied to that thread then, but got no answers. I replied to it again recently and it appears to be the same now.

Could be my error, but I'm not seeing nearly as many current and active "seeking companion" ads.

Any advice welcome

Returned from a Transatlantic cruise on the RCI Jewel May 2012. Had a grand trip to Europe with a cabin mate that I found on Cruisemates. Would not have been able to afford this cruise if I did not have a cabin mate...

Default Connie Fall Transatlantic

Not a cabin share as CruCon on this sail had singles rates only $75 more than doubles, including full cabin OBC. 7 or 8 of us, all solos, combined our dining reservations( thanks to CasinoJoan), and had a great time. Thanks to Cruisemates for this opportunity.

Just got back from 30days(Panama canal and then Alaska) with the same roomie.

#1 Tip, find out if they snore even if your a sound sleeper! Dude was somewhere between a bear and a jetplane, and then gasped as if dieing. I don't snore so it didn't occur to me to ask, information that you should share if you know though!

Although I could have afforded it alone I probably would have only done the alaska portion solo. Would never cruise with this person again but I don't regret it. Fantastic trip, just ignored each other for the most part.

Will my next trip be solo? Probably, though if cost was a big issue I'd consider it. Just do some due diligence and ask questions beforehand. Worst case scenario there are 1999 other people to make friends with.

Happy sailing!

Interesting info: Most people snore sometimes (obviously some much worse than others) including women, esp post menopause.

SO, I always suggest that for "those" nights when the other person is snoring, bring Earplugs...generally work great (also read that those nose strips help the snorer). Anyone w/ experience with these? (I can vouch that earplugs work - get the good ones though).

I had a husband for 17 years who snored loud enough to rattle the walls at night (not exaggerating). I got used to it so a snorer would not bother me. Guess I'm lucky. But for those less fortunate, I would highly recommend breathe right strips. If that isn't good enough..Silicone ear plugs baby!!

I just found the site and was checking out some threads and thought I would throw in my .02..

Rather than the whole talk on the phone thing, just use facebook chat with video. Don't wanna be facebook friends ? Use Skype. I think it would help you get more comfortable with someone you'll be spending a week or so with.

Just a thought.
