Default new cruisers

My husband & I are taking our first cruise on Princess on the May 10 Southern Carribean. We're from New Jersey. We have a question. On the return to Puerto Rico at the end of the cruise, how long can you remain on the ship? Our flight is 6:00 pm--what do you do with luggage from the time you get to port and the time your flight leaves? Any advice? thanks!

I can only answer part of it - you have to get off the ship early as they are preparing it for the next group of passengers. I haven't sailed from Puerto Rico so don't know the answer to the rest of your questions.

I cruise the Emerald Princess, Eastern Caribbean on April 16, 2012

We took the ships excursion for the day, that took care of our luggage concerns, and we were led off the ship, early. Honestly, this is the best way to while away the day, with no worries..one excursion had the ability to use a hotel pool, we chose, ans iland tour, that had a stop at the Bacardi Rum factory..not my cup of tea, but it killed time....speak to the cruise line and ask what they offer for cruisers with late flights.

Trip, with her book & tea!

Most likely they offer some post cruise excursions. Once you are onboard they will give you info on that. Your luggage will be on the bus with you and at the end of the tour, they drop you at the airport. Much better way to spend the day than sitting at the airport.

i totally agree with the others, look into a ships post-cruise excursion, or a day stay at a hotel

I agree about taking the post cruise excursions but once in a while like our cruise last week they have a full customs inspection. In that case they cancel all the post cruise excursions. We took a cab to a restaurant in Old San Juan and they kept our luggage while we had a great lunch and then we went to the airport. Allow a lot of time for the airport. san Juan is not the biggest or the most efficient at getting you through all the inspections. Enjoy the cruise ,the end of it comes way to fast. Can't believe I'm home already

It sounds to me like you're on the 5:30 pm Continental flight back to Newark - Liberty. One of the best ways to kill time, like others have said, is to take a post cruise excursions such as the City Tour and Bacardi Rum Distillery tour or the El Yunaqu Rainforest tour. Another alternative is to "hire" a cab for a few hours (usually at a flat rate) and have him drive you around to see the sights.
If you want to think outside the box try, going to the airport after you disembark, check in, and rent a car for the day and do some touring on you own.
You can also look at the thread under Carnvial Cruise Line "Baggage after debarkation" (Feb 21,2009) to see what other people have done regarding their luggage.

when we departed the cruise we had to vacate our room early..but we didnt have to vacate the ship!

infact if you vacate your room..and have breakfast - you miss the crowds...
