Default Star to Alaska

My dh and I are planning a cruise to Alaska in September and are trying to decide between Sapphire Princess and NCL's Star. We have taken the Sun before and loved it. Our cruise to the southern caribbean last week on RCCL's AOS was a disappointment compared to the Sun.

We are 31 & 32 yrs old and like to keep busy all the time. Is the Star a good choice for us? I like the idea of anytime dining, but they have that option on both lines. Any information would be greatly appreciated. TIA

We've sailed on both lines and you won't go wrong with either. We booked the Star for Sept 4 for three reasons, price of the cruise, cheaper air (Seattle R/T), and the Sept 4 sailing allows us to use less vacation days. We can fly up on Sat and use our Labor Day holiday for Mon.

The food is a little better on Princess but you have more dinning options on the Star. The feeling on both ships will be casual, maybe a little more so on the Star. Quality of service will be the same as will the entertainment. The decor on the Sapphire will be more elegant then the Vegas casino style of the Star. But both are impressive ships in their own way.

This will be our first trip to Alaska so I can't comment on the average passenger age, but in the Caribbean, Princess and NCL attract the same demographic, with about 50% in their 30's and 40's. I would assume that holds true for Alaska

Tip - If dinning is a priority for you, chose the Sapphire. I price is an issue chose Star. Shore excursions are a necessity if you want to actually see Alaska and they are very expensive. For our party of 3, we will spend over 2K on shore excursions alone.

Thank you for your response. I'm pretty sure we've decided to try Princess. It has the best deal for the week we are looking to go. This will be our first cruise without a balcony, but at least we will have a window. I'm so excited!
