Default W. Caribbean with 3 kids

Hi,

We're cruising on the Grand Princess (departing 12/17/04) to the W. Caribbean and was wondering what are the best excursions to take in the following ports of call: Belize, Cozumel, Grand Cayman and Cristobal (Panama Canal). Our kids are: 10, 7 and 3. Haven't booked anything through the cruise line, thought I'd do it on our own as we wanted flexibility.

Also, what are the kids' programs like on the Grand Princess? What kinds of activities are offered? How much time do you put your kids in the kids' programs? Will they enjoy the shows in the evening?

Any other info you could pass on about the ship and cruising with kids would be great. Thanks.

You're in luck. See the home page of this site for an article I wrote on W. Caribbean w/Kids that just came out yesterday. It gives you lots of ideas on what to do w/kids in those ports. As for Princess, check out the article I wrote (look on the main family page of this section) "Science at Sea for Kids" for details on the youth program.
Smooth sailing,

I am traveling w/ a 2 yo and a 4 yo. In Belize we will be doing Goff's caye. You can take an excursion thru the line or private. It is a tiny island about the size of a football field. You can snorkle right off the beach or got a little ways out on a boat and snorkle. Gentle slope, currents aren't as strong as other cayes here. Do a google search (do an image search too) for more info. In Grand Cayman, taking a island a sea tour w/ nativeways. You get to see all the on shore stuff (turtle farm, 7 mi beach, hell, ect) then they take you to a sand bar (think shallow) where you get to see rays and such. In Coz we are going to Paradise beach. $5 entrance fee. They have a water trampoline, water "iceberg" to climb, floaties, and all kinds of stuff included in price of admission. Also have food, drink, nice facilities, massages, braiding. GREAT for families and kids of all ages from what I understand. Our forth port is Costa Maya. We will probably ride horses there while gma and gpa hang out with the kids in Majuhaul on the beach. Our kids are smaller, so we opted to NOT take any excursions that require long bus rides like the ruins.

Here are a few site I have found very helpful:

Hey Luisa! I read your w carib article and it was great. Just a FYI..I contacted belizecruiseexcursions late last week. I chatted with a lady using the "live help" option they offer. She said that they are no longer offering the Sun Kissed tour to Goff's. Said they got too many complaints about the ride being too rough, suggested it may have been because of the size of their boats. She suggested I go thru the cruise line as they use bigger boats so the ride would be better. BUT I am still looking for another private operator that goes here. Thanks for all your help!
