Default breakfast and lunch... what to wear

I see that in the main dining hall everyone needs to have on nicer casual clothes (no t-shirts/shorts). Is it the same rule for breakfast and lunch? This will be my first cruise so please forgive my stupid question but do you only eat in the main dining hall for dinner, and eat at the buffet/cafe's for breakfast and lunch? I have heard its okay to wear your t-shirt and shorts into the buffet and cafe's on the ship.

Its also "OK" to wear shorts/t-shirts in the dining room for breakfast and lunch, just like the buffett. No swimwear is allowed in either. If you are at the pool and want to come in for lunch, just pack a coverup or put on a pair of shorts, and shoes or sandals are also acceptable. The phrase "dress code" is mainly for dinner, that will change daily, so check your daily cruise paper for the dress for that evening.

There are some cruisers on Holland America that never eat at the Lido buffet because they want to be served their breakfast & lunch & dress for dinner. Since in Alaska you rarely need to wear shorts unless you're truly warm blooded, casual wear is ok in the dining room.for breakfast & lunch. You are seated where ever there's room. Most people come dressed for their excursions so you will see all sorts of clothing. Shoes ( sandals, flip flops) are required for all restaurants. Check your ship's packing list to verify what's needed. The menu for lunch in the dining room is usually posted. It will be more limited than what is served at the buffet. Have fun!

shorts, t-shirts and some type of shoe are perfectly fine for eating in the main dining rooms for breakfast and lunch. If you want something a bit more than the buffet for breakfast/lunch its nice to go to the dining rooms and be seated, waited on. FYI - if you want eggs for breakfast definately go to the dining room- we found the eggs at the buffet to be runny, rubbery and cold. The breakfast menu does not change from day to day in the dining rooms. I don't know about lunch.
