Angry Are you kidding me!

Inside Edition showed people getting their drinks and drinking them while their driving. One guy had his kid in the back seat. Another ordered an extra shot of rum.

It used to be legal to drink and drive in Florida. I used to stop at Jax liquors to buy either a scotch on the rocks or a beer on the way home. Of course, drunk driving was illegal. One drink an hour and you never get above .05 (unless you are very light weight).

I find that a single drink is less imparing than talking on phone, texting, or even a woman putting on makeup. I had an old girlfriend that would smoke, drink coffee, and steer with her knees; that was a lot worse than having a drink leaving the other hand free.

Anything that takes your eyes off the road is bad. Just so happens drinking and driving makes me crazy, that is how my sister was killed. Someone driving home from work that had a few to many and chose to get behind the wheel and take my only sister. I have never figured out what gave him the right to make that choice. Can anyone give me and answer to that that makes sense? It has been 11 years and I am still very bitter when it comes to drunk driving, and now I add cell phones to that list.

Can't legislate morality. People will do what they want rergardless of laws.

First DUI should be jail. Yes it will certainly clog the jails.

In the State of Tennessee a first DUI - (Driving Under the Influence known as DWI - Driving While Intoxicated elsewhere) is an automatic, no exemption (even for the big shots) 48 hours in jail plus the fines, etc. A second is an automatic minimum of 45 days.

In New York, two DWI's within ten years can constitute a Class E felony if the court so desires. Don't believe me? Ask an attorney. Is it worth giving up your right to vote, hold a professional license, possess a firearm, etc.? I guess that's for the individual to decide.

1- drug pushers and pimps
2- those who sell legal drugs like alcohol (and think they aint doing no wrong)
3- those who think it's their right to drink and drive (and do so)
4- there's a special place in hell for #3 who do so with children in the car

One thing I see here in Florida is people driving with pick up trucks with people in the back. That in itself is dangerous I would think that would be outlawed. Combine that with a drunken fool at the wheel and it equals tragedy. In NH it took a horrible tragedy to get that law changed. A man got behind the wheel drunk with all of his kids in the back of the pickup. He slammed into a tree all the children were thrown out and killed. One drunken creep, a stupid law and a whole family of beautiful children wiped out in an instant.

My town does not have a police force . There is zero violent crime here .Occasional shoplifting and occasional home or store breakins ,thats it .

I think it is terrible !!

USA : It has 751 people in prison or jail for every 100,000 in population. (If you count only adults, one in 100 Americans is locked up.)

The only other major industrialized nation that even comes close is Russia, with 627 prisoners for every 100,000 people. The others have much lower rates. England's rate is 151; Germany's is 88; and Japan's is 63.

Most small villages, etc. throughout New York State have no police department, relying on the County Sheriff's Department and/or the New York State Police to provide protection. This is simply because usually, though not always, the small village could not begin to afford its own police department.

Long Island has a different system (along with Westchester County just to mention another). In these (usually more affluent) areas, the Sheriff's Dept. is devoted solely to the secure confinement of those arrested and don't do "road patrol." For example, the Westchester County jail is as big as many state prisons. These areas have what is known as "County Police" for local security and road patrol. For Long Island, they have, depending in which county you live, on Long Island, Suffolk County Police and Nassau County Police. Larger municipal areas within these counties of course have their own police departments as well.

Some point to make here:
The prison population is NOT made up of ONLY Americans. The problem is that we do not deport enough of those that commit crimes here. We jail/house illegals for their term then deport them. A mistake in my view. Send them back to their home country immediately.

Recently in Washington state there was a, what the name implied, a Russian, who was caught videotaping himself driving 140 mph so that he can post it on Youtube. It was his 3rd offense.

Post back when we have figures that accurately reflect the prison population demographics.
