Default Welcome To A Chilly Tuesday Morning in Upper East Tennessee

Typical winter weather is again ensconced in upper East Tennessee for the next few days. The low of 24 this morning, which would be considered balmy to those of you in the northern climes, is considered downright cold to most in these parts.

Fran is doing her part to try and help the economy. She was so thrilled with her bathroom re-do that she has scheduled a scaled down version for the guest bathroom. The only thing it is getting is a ceramic tiled floor, new toilet and a paint job. These plans of course entail that everything be removed from the large linen closet.

The casual observer would think that we obviously have a fetish for terry cloth. Between the upscale bath towel sets I inherited from an Aunt who spent money in a fashion akin to that of the US Congress and the gorgeous sets that are forever being sent by Fran’s niece in Staten Island, I am not joshing all that much when I claim we have enough to equip an average motel. Three heavy-duty 39 gallon sized plastic bags with a total weight in excess of 70 pounds, sit filled and ready to go to the local Community Center. The dining room table that’s been extended to banquet size still has every square inch covered with sets piled two feet high....and these don’t even include the ones in our bathroom linen closet in our master bath!

As we grow older we are divesting ourselves of a lot of really good stuff that we either no longer or in some cases, have never used. Everyone tells us we could make a veritable fortune with a yard sale. Problem is, neither of us are up to that task and while we’re on a fixed income, we consider it adequate if not necessarily for our wants, definitely for our needs. Therefore we have chosen to assist those in our community that are far less fortunate. We won’t donate anything that isn’t new with tags still attached, practically new or very seldom used. We’ve already donated several smaller kitchen appliances and Fran, who has undoubtedly every kitchen gadget known to man, is fixing to donate additional items.

Hope everyone scheduled to go on the Blog To Nola cruise is about ready. I'd bet BeenieWeenie certainly is.

Special Prayers continue for Delft and her Mum, Judy, Luanne, Venice and all others needing them, in addition of course to Blessings on all ‘o you’uns.

Todd

Good Morning all, its is a snowy morning in NJ and Philly. I am going to get that miserable little groundhog Phil.

One of the triplets, Lucia, is now at home with Carey to follow shortly. They want Veronica, the little peanut, to weigh at least 4 pounds (3 pounds 11 oz currently) before she goes home.

Everyone have a great day and I need this:

Dover Beach, Barbados

Good morning everyone from a very cool Texas, where it is suppose to warm up a little when the sun comes up.

I had a pretty good day, yesterday. I went through some more of Joe's things, and found a bible that did not belong to him. I wanted to give it back to the person, so I did what every modern person does, I googled him. Turns out he is an American soldier stationed in Ga.

He called me last night, and put me in touch with another of Joe's friends, who I had been wanting to talk to. I also have something of hers, so we are getting together on Thursday.

Jim is suppose to finally go to Iraq in June, but in the mean time they asked if he would take a stateside assignment for a few weeks. In my favorite Grief book, she says that the best thing she ever did, after her son was killed, was to get away for a while, to re-connect with her hubby, and to get a new outlook on life. They picked Hawaii, and we are doing the next best thing. We are going to Little Rock, Ar.

I have never been, so I thought it would be a great experience. So while Jim is working, I will be doing the tourist thing. I do hope that above our bed in the hotel, it doesn't have a sign that says, "Bill Clinton slept here for a few hours"

I do hope that all is well for all of you. My prayers are for you.

Doug, I am so sorry I have not expressed my joy at the birth and development of the three angels. I am so glad they are doing well.

Luanne

Todd I just love you guys... You and Fran are good people. I just want to come to Tennessee and hold a big giant garage sale for you. Heck I should probably do it for myself too... I went through and cleaned out our closets and realized we have a lot of stuff we really don't need, so I got rid of it, but guess what? there's more where that came from and I have drawn the conclusion, it reproduces when the closet door is closed. My solution...leave the doors open. I'll let you know how that works out for us .

Doug, congrats on those babies!!! That is the very best news, I could not be any happier for you guys!

Todd is right I am ready to go New Orleans in a big way, except for the fact I forgot, I still haven't picked up the pants I had altered , I might need those. Also I have not packed any of d/h's stuff. I have a little more ironing to do. I think I have all the kid's stuff in the suitcase. I need to fill up the bird's seed and water, top off the cat's bowl and turn the hot tub down etc... I know I'll forget something, I always do.

Old Man Winter did a sneak attack last night. I woke up to find a few more inches of snow replacing the ones that melted over the past few days. Once more I did not order more snow! I need to pop down to CVS and pick up some doodads for my hair. I love my hairdresser, but she just hasn't been as aggressive as I need her to be with the scissors lately. So last night I grabbed my good hair cutting shears and lopped off a couple of inches off the top... Much better! (I am a trained professional, Don't try this at home ) Anyhow, I know once we get down south I am going to roast, so I need to put my hair up in something. I need clippy thingies. d/d swipes them so I am continually buying them.

Take care everyone!!! I probably won't post tomorrow morning as I plan to get up early and head south. Once I get to NOLA it will be late, but if I am still awake, I will pop in and check how everyone is getting along.

Good morning all. Looks like a nice day in southern Florida coming up.

Beenie keep us posted on the open door policy. I think a lot of us have the same problem with our stuff. :-)

Safe travels for those leaving early for the bloggers cruise.

Take care everyone.

Good Morning Mates,

It is not sunny yet, I am hoping tho'! It will be in the twenties today, but with a wind, so it will feel like teens I guess.

Have to go to work this am and finish all the tax documents. As in everything up here - we were unable to pick up the forms at the IRS building (the one business in town that doesnt' seem to be laying off...go figure. I should be grateful tho' that we do have an IRS facility and they do employ somewhere between 20 and 40 people I think).
They finally had what I needed for forms (think basic - 1099's and w-2's) last Thursday. I couldn't download them at Church as my computer is basically limping along until the new one I had to order on Sunday gets here, but that would make it too late for the tax dates.UGH

I also have pool therapy this afternoon. I also need to call the hospital about one of my tests and then the doctors. I hope I can remember to do this, I just can't remember anything lately.

Also need to try to do some visitation.

I need to get the pork roast in the slow cooker for the pulled pork we will be having for supper.

Todd - I won't even discuss the condition of my towel. Like you I am not up to yardsales...so several times a year I box/bag up stuff to donate either to our local help center or if the Church is having a yard sale to raise money for our Children's programs.
I still could basically weed out tons of other stuff, but I seldom have the time or energy.

Doug - glad the girls are doing well.

Luanne - Well I have never been to LR either ...I am sure that you will find some interesting nooks and crannies to tell us about. The change will surely do you good.

Stay safe and warm all!

Morning All, from Montreal, where the sun is shining, but the temperature has dipped once again to -14C with a windchill of -23 (9 below F).
Bright, crisp morning, sure to wake you up!

Todd, your linen closet reminds me of my mom's. When she passed away 4 years ago, I was responsible for emptying her house and I couldn't believe the stuff she had in there. Some of it replaced my old and worn stuff, but most of it went to charity.
I just wanted to mention, when you are ready to part with those piles of towels and blankets, don't forget your local animal shelter! They always need that kind of stuff, especially for new rescues or litters of pups!

BW, I love your solution to the "reproduction" going on behind closed closet doors! I swear it happens here too. I am on a campaign to de-clutter my house and I am finding it a lot more difficult and time-consuming than I had imagined. Why do we hang onto all this STUFF?

Doug, I'd like to join you on that groundhog hunt....
And I really need to be in that photo too! Only 25 more days!!!

donna

Hi Kids,
I am waiting for the storm to come, so I called Nikki and told her NOT to come....Safety first! Its been 31 years this week, that the infamous blizzard of "78" hit so many states, back inthe day...

Nikki was an infant, my Mom was living with us,,,we lost our heat, hot water, and both doors kept blowing in..it took Bruce and 1000's of of others, hours to get home.1000's more were stranded on rte.128, in restaurants etc..It was a total mess...We had to walk to get pampers for the baby...the state was closed to traffic, but boy what memories...people pulled together and that was such a plus!

Bruce had a better day yesterday, but still continues to fight me on the Doctor....I enlisted Tweety in my fight to make him listen..what's a wife to do, I called in the infantry

Good thoughts going out to all.

Make it a good one.

Good Morning everyone! It's cold here in Eastern Ks. and will be tomorrow as well! How I envy those going on the cruise this weekend!!!

Todd - I understand your pain with all the "stuff", your house sounds like my folks, - when my mom passed away - I found all sorts of stuff with the tags still on, never used etc. and it was all stuff I had bought her because she said she needed it - she was raised during the depression and felt that she didn't want to ever be without again - so besides giving away, having garage sales , I can finally say that after almost 6 yrs I think I've gotten rid of most of her stuff - now working on getting rid of mine! - I don't want my daughter to have to deal with it when I'm gone.

Doug - congrats on the babies, glad to hear that they are doing well!

James - weather in NO is better than being in Missouri!!! Enjoy!!

Everyone have a great day and prayers being sent for those who need them!!

Good Morning.Things are going easier but yesterday had alot of tears in it just trying to get back up on my feet again.Seems harder with all the preasures of the last while and especially what lies ahead. Its terribly cold out side. I did get such a good laugh at how Europe is coping with the snow. My friends daughter is in paris for a year studying and she was cracking up watching people try and walk in the slush as she bounded down the streets in her running shoes! Don't think I didnt enjoy giving a tease or two to loved ones in Englad !

RollerDonna,

Forget my local animal shelter? I don't think I'll forget my local animal shelter if for no other reason than............... I'm the President! You don't even want to know what we've given the animals!!

Thanks RD for thinking of (and reminding all of us) of the little critters out there who always need our help.

Todd

Default Wecome to a Chilly Morning in Upper East Tennessee

Good mornin' from Southern California. Another warm day and then the clouds come in as a precursor to the rain.

I finally got an appt. with an infectious disease specialist and will see him tomorrow morning. Twice they asked me which hospital I wanted to go to!

Keith has an appt. with the neurologist this morning; just a routine check up. Tonight we go to the second diabetes class.

Have a good day!

Good afternoon, from in the upper 30's, Virginia Beach. After exercizing at the J.C.C., I had asked security if they had recorded my car being hit, yesterday, in their parking lot. The accident was recorded but it was hard to determine the license plate of the person that hit my car. How can anybody walk away after hitting somebody else's car! I now have the hassle of having to take my car in to be repaired, getting a rental car, plus paying a deductable on my insurance policy! All I can say is the person who hit my car, and walked away from the scene, has a lot of chutzpah! (nerve). Todd, we are all collectors over a lifetime. It is so hard to part with nick-nacks that are momentos of a special time and place in our lives. Glad to hear that the bathroom remodel went well. May all my fellow cruisemates have a wonderful day.

Not much we can do about the weather but use it for conversation--good or bad.
But with the blow ol' man winter dealt us here in Ky. in the last several days, we surely don't need anymore ice and snow but that's what were getting today. Here in my corner of Ky. we had at one time over 37,000 people without power --over 700,000 statewide. The utility companies have brought in a lot of crews from other states to help so the number is dwindling, but still there are thousands statewide that are hurting. We are expected to get 3-4 inches snow today and tonight--schools ( that were open today ) are letting out early. The temp. is supposed to plummet --down to about 8-10 o tonight with a " high " of 20o tomorrow ! However, the weather guys say we will have a heat wave starting in a few days--will be up to high 40's and low 50's. Hope they are correct.
I did venture out into the back yard yesterday and suddenly found myself on my back looking up, trying to figure out what happened - --took me forever to get up as my feet keep sliding on the ice. I finally crawled around on my hands and knees and managed to get up---my wife looked out, saw me and opened the door and wanted to know what I was doing-- I advised her I was praying that I could get up ! Luckily nothing was broken but my ego !
I'm going to spend some time looking at retirement communities in Fla. on the ol' puter today !

Happy Tuesday Mates,
Our day started out cool, but warmed up to a pleasant 48 F. My little first grade girl came into class just beaming. Her new baby brother was born yesterday. His name is Case and he got to come home from the hospital today.
Sorry to hear about the weather many of you are dealing with. Those southern states look better and better for retirement.
Todd, you make me want to start cleaning out closets. When my mom passed away in 1979 she still had some towels from her 1952 wedding that had never been used. I vowed not to live like that. (She was a depression child)
For those of you leaving for the Bloggers cruise...have a fantastic time.
Take lots of pictures and share your stories.
Louanne, I am glad you are planning a getaway. It is hard when you both are sharing so much grief. It is so personal and different for each individual. I know my stepson is suffering over his son's suicide from last June.

Take care everyone,
jojo
