Default Update on Ray

Just returned from visiting with Ray. He is looking good and waiting. He still hasn't seen his doctor today but they are giving him lots of blood thinners. Swelling is going down and the calf is softening up a bit.

Come to find out that after not being able to return to the ship under his own power in Cozumel, he simply went to his cabin and rested a bit. Did he go to the infirmary.... NO not our Ray. Sure wish I had been there with him, he would have visited the doctor on the ship for sure even if I had to drag him there. He's quite lucky that it didn't get worse before he finally got to see the doctor at home.

He is however resting comfortably and feeling well where he is now and he has read all your posts but has not been able to post a reply. He is quite touched by the well wishes from so many people and sends a sincere thank you to all.

I just spoke to him Gaile, and he told me how much he enjoyed visiting with you and Harry. When he told me what happened, I was thinking exaclty what you just said..If Gaile head been there, things would have been different, he would have seen a Dr onboard. He did get choked up when thinking of everyones well wishes. He is such a sweety, and I sure hope he is home, doing all the things he does, very soon:) xoxoxoxo

goodness, he really got lucky that he made it home and to a doctor; usually blood clots can be quick hitters... someone must have really wanted Ray to be able to finish his cruise. - sounds like the meds are working and we wish him and Helen the best.

Thanks Tweets,
For the updates on Ray, sounds like he just needs to rest up and let the meds do their thing.

Get better Ray! Hi to Helen!

I know Tweety is married to "da Coot" but I think Helen is also married to another "old Coot"! Ray, for heaven's sakes, why didn't you visit the infirmary on the ship? You're lucky you got immediate attention when you got home. Sure glad to hear you are resting and improving, heck, we need you around here!! Hi to Helen too!

It is good to hear that Ray is feeling better. My mother had this same problem, so I know what a serious condition this is. Looking forward to cruising again with Ray and Helen ( a nicer couple you can't find anywhere).

Gaile, thanks for the information. I have been out of town and just heard about Ray. They should give him a lot of Tobasco sauce to help him get out of that hospital sooner. Tell him that we are all waiting to cruise with him again!

I spoke with Ray a about an hour ago, and it now looks like he'll be in the hospital for another 2 or 3 days. He saw his doctor around 6 pm yesterday (Tuesday), and he's doing about as well as can be expected. Helen was able to visit him this morning, and I'm sure that made him feel a lot better.

It turns out that Ray has two clots (groin and knee), and he'll be on a steady heparin drip until they're dissolved. Ray says that he's on his third bottle of that clotbuster stuff (heparin) and feels like he's floating in it.

We were also on the cruise with Ray and Helen, and were concerned with him wheeling Helen all over that large ship in the rather big (and heavy) wheelchair which had been provided by Carnival. But Ray simply wouldn't let anybody else give him a hand, even though he was obviously dragging at times. He did remark to me after dinner on Saturday night that he was feeling the effects of all that pushing, but we had no idea that he was in real distress.

When I first spoke to him yesterday, I asked Ray how he had gotten from home to the hospital on Monday evening. He told me that Helen had driven him, even though she is not supposed to be driving at all! I asked him who was the more stubborn one, he or Helen? He said it was pretty much a draw! Fortunately, the hospital is only a short distance from their Ocoee home.

Ray says they still plan to be on their Dec. 3rd Princess cruise if all goes well. He and Helen are in our prayers. What a loving pair those two are! They are simply the best IMO.

Get well soon Ray, will they keep you on Coumadin now to prevent this again?

Ray, I know you will read this thread when you are feeling better, so:

Please learn how to say "O.K. thank you for offering."

It is as important to receive an offer of help, as it is to offer help. Please take care of yourself! We haven't sailed together, yet!

Just spoke to Ray, he was surprised to hear me 8)
Ray is doing fine, he was really just in time at the hospital. He is waiting for one more docters talk and is probably discharged tomorrow. He told me 1 week in hospital was long enough. He feels a lot better.
Helen is so much better too.

Oh and Gaile, he told me you were at him not going to the ships docter 8)

Good news, Ray is home. When I spoke to him he was trying to retrieve Helen. She has been staying with Daughter Celeste and she and Mom went for a pedicure this AM. Hope she is now home with him.

Take it easy Ray.

Folks I have read all of this thread and I THANK all for the kind words. I Got home today, Friday , after 5 long days on my bed. One thing was an asset, young good looking nurses. They loved me so much and really took good care of me.

The removed the IV about 11:30 today Friday, Oct 12th and I was on my way home about 1 30PM. What a releaf to be home again.

Yes I was stubborn, but I had to take care of my lover. She could not be left alone. The large Wheel Chair was fine except to not being able to pass through narrow passages. It helped me and acted as a walker.

I really enjoyed the cruise even tho of my condition.

I have asked the doc at bunch of questions those being--How did the clot start? Will it be desolved? Will it return? He answered them all and then I asked could I be able to go cruising on Dec 3rd. He said yep why not. So we are preparing for the Flight to Florence, Italy and then cruising back on the Star Princess to Port Everglades.

Will try to be on Chat tonight Oct 12th, if I am not asleep.

Ray, I agree, this shouldnt prevent you from going, you are probably on coumadin ( or equivelant) now right? They will monitor your pt/ptt and get you on the right dose and it will be unlikely to re occur on theraphy. Glad your home and have something to look so forward to, every adventure is worth looking forward to, no matter how big or small. You take care and sleep well in your own bed .
