Default Cruising To Cuba

I don't want this to be a political thread, but I read an article tonight that said that Carnival was waiting until the time that they would be free to go into Cuba. My question is have you ever been, do you want to, and if you have visited there, could you tell us what it is like.

I would love to go. I would love to see those people have once again a beautiful place to call home. It would also be a great stop for ships coming from the Galveston, Mobile, NO area, as well as Florida, and the East Coast. It sounds like a win, win, situation to me.

What are your thoughts?

Default Cruising to Cuba

I have been by it many times and it is a very beautiful country, I'm sure. It would be hard to port there on a cruise knowing how oppressed and totally desperate the Cuban population is living under Castro's regime.

Default Cruising to Cuba

There was a thread like this months ago. Yes, I would cruise to Cuba, but it would have to be safe, not only to travel there, but to tour there, and to eat and drink there.

Canadians (and most others) travel to Cuba all the time. It's just another island with its good and bad points..... I like to refer to it as Mexico without the crime.

I've been there twice, once for 7 days and the other for 14 days, and loved it. People were very friendly and we felt as safe as any place we've been.

The one thing we noticed that was superior to the other dozen Carribean islands we have been on was the level of education of the people especially working on the resort.

The resorts were first class, the villages and town were quite dilapidated due to the lack of building material available to the people. The vehicles was like going to an antique car show in Canada or the US. The citizens that had cars were mostly made in the 50's. The taxis and vehicles used by the tourist and government were late models.

If we were looking to vacation on a Carribean island, Cuba would be high on our list. Now that we discovered cruising, we'll probably spend our money that way.

I would go I have heard two things that got me curious to go see it.
One is the fact some places looks like everything stopped in the 60's as far as autos and architecture, etc.
Also, I heard there is some awesome scenary.
I wonder if by the time I sail since we will go around Cuba if we will see any celebrations due to Castro's eminent demise.

I would love to go. It would be a great port for most departures (Gulf of Mexico and Miami). Hopefully the Cuban economy could benefit from cruise ships and give us a great port ot visit. May life only get better for the Cuban nationals.

I've been to Cuba and loved it. As for the celebrations for the death of Castro, the only place that will happen is in D.C. and Miami. The cuban people love Castro and when asked about him speak with much respect and even reverance. As I said I was in Cuba for our daughter's wedding and stayed at a resort in Veradero. A first class resort with the most beautiful beach I,ve ever seen. If you ever get the chance to go ,jump at it .
