Default Rollerdonna is Rolling Again!!

Just had to let you know, that after 3 years, and 10 months, I have finally gone back to my namesake, and went rollerskating tonight!! I stopped skating when my skating buddy got pregnant a few years ago, and couldn't skate. 9 months of pregnancy, and the "baby" turned 3 just a month ago, so we decided it was about time to go back! The price has gone up, the rink has undergone renovations, the floor needs refinishing, the music was awful, but we skated, and it felt great! After an hour we were dragging ourselves, and just about ready to leave, when all of a sudden the music changed to the Bee Gees singing Stayin' Alive! Well, I got a last burst of energy, and we skated out the rest of the song, and boy, it was fun. Talk about a natural high! Then we had to go to McDonalds next door and replenish our energy...

Sounds like fun Donna! I bet you got your second wind when you heard the Bee Gees!

Donna - congratulations! Now, like Cynic asks....are those long unused muscles singing today? Mine sure would be!

No Cynic, my bum is NOT sore. In fact, it's just like riding a bike - you just never forget. It was just like we'd never left, the skating came so easily.
Keeping it up longer than an hour was pretty tough though!
And it's now 2:30 a.m. and I'm not asleep because of leg cramps, but I don't care, it was worth it!

Way to go!!! Sounds like you had fun. I used to skate a million years ago. When I was growing up in Massachusetts. I wish there were a rink around here. It would be fun to try it again.

Donna, have you ever seen the movie XANADU? It has Olivia Newton-John and Gene Kelly in it. She is a Muse who skates and the music is wonderful.

Excellent! As a kid (way too long ago) I roller skated almost every Saturday night, and don't think I've been on skates since. When I went into the Marine Corps in 1959, I sold my precision "Sabre" skates to my oldest brother, and he just informed me that he donated them to the Salvation Army just a year or so ago. I wish I still had them,,I think it'd be great fun, and great exercise to give it another go!
Keep up the good work!
See you on the Century,
Ken

Sounds like you had a blast. That would be great exercise too! For the leg cramps --try taking vitamin E --it's supposed to help with that. Maybe I need to start rollerskating--it'd be a fun way to exercise--I used to love it!

Wonderful, RD! I skated a lot as a kind growing up in Minnesota. Sounds like you had a blast, especially with Saturday Nite Fever boogeyin' away!

I am jealous....Maybe I can talk the step-grandkids into taking me skating when they come in...It will be scary, since I haven't skated in 30 years, but I know it will be fun....I learned to skate on a wooden floor...What kind of floor did you skate on??? Take care and I hope your leg cramps are gone, Susan

Roller skating is so much fun; glad you had such a good time. My daughter takes her children roller skating in N.H. Not too many rinks left. Guess its all ipods and video games and that's sad.
