Default Kite Pictures

Was reading Lisa's post where she wrote:

"Carnival is just not sure the kites can withstand the strong winds, etc. I personally think they should look at the pics from the Summit and see how it can be done"

Does anyone know if the pics she is referring to are in the photo galleries on this site. And if so, what date were they posted? I would love to see them =)

Thanks for the link. I was a bit of a kite flyer when I was a kid. Flying them from a ship looks like a lot of fun. I wonder if that might replace skeet shooting.

Cheers yourself,

Steve

Speaking of skeet shooting - my turn to change the subject - are there any ships which still offer that as an activity? The only time I got to try was on the old ms Canberra and that was in 1973. As I recall, we were given a demonstration and one free shot. After that there was a charge, so I passed. I can't imagine it would be common today with all the concerns about safety and passenger unease.

I read somewhere that crusielines stopped it because of the plastic in the shells, possibly the skeets. Sounds bogus to me. I'd like to try it if it's still available.

tr cruiser,
It is true that skeet shooting was banned from the ships. It was the plastic wads that the environmentalist got involved and stopped the sport. Harmful to the marine life.

You MUST arrange the kite flying with the authorities on the ship. You may or may not be allowed to fly the kites. There are many issues of safety and environmental correctness to be considered. I repeat, DO NOT just go out on the deck and fly kites unless it has been approved, or you could find yourselves in major hot water! (And I'm not trying to pour hot water on your enthusiasm, just warning you.)

jay ...

It was not an easy thing to arrange. First, I talked to the people at Celebrity corporate and they said OK. Then the Captain said no. Then Kuki charmed the Hotel Manager in the course of making arrangements for some events and I charmed the Captain at dinner. I took a second run at the Hotel Manager when making arrangements for a cocktail party.

What it finally came down to is that a few of us had to do a test flight overseen by a couple of officers to see how the kites would act. The kites flew nicely. And so did Kukii's hat.

I agree with Jennifer. Don't try it without permission and some security backup to keep civilians away.

Also, it's the Captain's decision what happens on his ship as, apparently, Kuki just found out.

But, wow, was it FUN !!!

Well thank you for the advice Pamda. I would never just go out on deck and start flying a kite without permission. I worked for Princess for 3 years and would never disrespect the captain or crew in that way or do something that would get back to land and tarnish my good name. I think I'll send an email to the captain when we get closer to sailing.

I really hope they will allow us to do it because in the pictures it looked like you guys had a BLAST!

=)
