marathon runner

My son is training for a marathon and we are going to the Eastern Carb. in Jan on the Splendor. Does anyone have any suggestions of some safe areas for him to run, etc. on St. Thomas, Dominican Republic or Nassau

Thanks Booe's mom

No I have never been to any of the places.

But their is a nice running track on all Carnival ships.

I know that Carnival has a walking track and the treadmills but that's not the same as running on a nice stretch of beach.

Yeah your right its not.

Most treadmills on cruiseships have had their upper speed settings lowered, and may be too slow of a pace for him.

Careful on St. Thomas. Those winding roads in the mountains look beautiful; but they are very dangerous. The vehicles have trouble sometimes just passing by each other without clipping each others mirrors.

Thanks,
Thats what I was wondering. I know on my way to Megan's Bay it was very curvy. I was also wondering about if it was safe to be out on his own. I don't think so!

Maybe he would like to run on one of the beaches - while you sit there drinking a beach drink :D

Thank you,
He has already run the Disney Marathon, now he is trying to qualify for the Boston and New York. But thank you.

I think I'd run up and down the cruise ship steps, the sun deck, the treadmill, etc. I would be very hesitant to run an island that I have no idea where I'm going or who might be lurking. I am NOT a marathon runner but if you haven't bought your son a Christmas present yet, this item might be idea for him. I just saw them at the Princeton Running Store when I was trying to find a particular item for myself.

That is unless he has a Garmin GPS watch already. It's not cheap but I think it would be worth its weight in gold and would make a fabulous Christmas gift. Why doesn't your son search marathon running websites for, i.e. serious Jamaican marathon runners, from each of the ports you are visiting. Jamaica has some of the best runners in the world. Maybe he can find a running companion that way and maybe he'll make a friend for life in the process????

Thanks, he has one. But I am going to strongly recommend NOT running on these islands. I think it might be better to take strong precausion.

I would be just as concern about his training diet while on the cruise
