Default EUROS or USD?

My DW and I are leaving for our 16 day cruise on the Liberty departing on November 3. We'll leave out of Civitavecchia, two stops in Spain and two in Portugal. Should we bring some Euros or should we be OK with US Dollars (and our Visa cards)?

Get Euros. Most of the countries do not accept USD. The exchange rate is different and most people can't exchange them.

Check your visa for additional exchange charges. Some of them are up to 4% of your purchase and you don't see that until you get home and get the bill.

Life is too short to let the ship of your dreams sail without you.

You can use USD for tips and paying your card balance abord the ship. However in Italy, Spain and Portugal the currency is the Euro.

You will need them for tips (porters in Civitavecchia), taxi, and other small/medium purchases. For larger purchases use your CC.

You can buy Euros (no coins) at most banks or online from Amex.
