Default Grandmothers ashes

Is it ok to bring my GrandMothers ashes to throw over the side of the boat while at sea? She loved to cruise and this was her wish.

i think you will have to call the cruise lines and ask if this would be possible. im sure there are international water laws about such things. i have the feeling that they will not allow it, but it does not hurt to try. also i dont know if they would be allowed on the plane.

calling and asking them will give you an answer.

My mother took my grandmother's ashes to Croatia last month. Took a death certificate along just in case. Never checked her bags or noticed it. I also think that it would be proper and polite to ask the cruise line. Taking the ashes aboard and dispursing them at ports etc would not pose a problem I think, but they may want a heads up that you would be casting anything overboard. I am sure it wouldn't be the first time.

Yes you can do it but you have to notify Carnival. It's done more than you think. The Officer that handles that on board will arrange everything for you because they have to check a lot of things like weather especially wind direction. Call Carnival and there is a person there that will send you all the info. You also need to contact the EPA I think it is. I have the information somewhere so i'll see if I can find it for you and post lomorrow if no one else has the answers.

Phobe has the correct answer. You MUST notify the cruiseline and they will arrange a small private time for you to do so. They will not allow you to scatter ashes while in port or even within the 3 mile limit though if I remember correctly.

I agree with the above comments.

Also you have to be careful about throwing ashes into the wind. If the ship is moving they will blow back in your face.

I agree with your Grandmother too. I told my dh "if I die at sea you can have me cremated and throw my ashes out to sea, and cruise on".
