Default Tortola, BVI--need info!

March 4, heading on the Carnival Liberty--someone told us we definitely need to do the Baths on this island and to book it through the cruise ship. They said not much else to do on this island and they thought it was great. Does anyone have any info on this excursion or island?? Thanks so much!!!! Everyone is great how you help out with all your info!!!!!!!!!!!!

Default my take on tortola

went there via holland americas zuiderdam. Didnt do any excursions here, just wondered around town. AND LOVED IT. If you get a chance stop by Pussers they have great food. And if u do any shopping wait till your day is at an end prices seem to go downat the end of the day.

Have been to the BVI numerous times both on cruise ships and sailboats. It is wonderful and much less commerical than many other cruise ship stops. The Baths are not on Tortola -- they are on Virgin Gorda. There are ferries that run between Tortola & VG. To get to the baths you will need to hire a taxi. You will be dropped off at the top and need to walk down a rather crude path to the Baths. (no wheelchairs!) The taxi driver will arrange to pick you up and get you back to the ferry. The taxi drivers (and everyone else) are tremendously accommodating in the BVI. The ferries do not run continuously -- you need to check to make sure you get back to your ship on time. It is probably safer to book through the Cruise line. When I went through the cruise line it was on a catamaran so we did not have the hike down to the baths. I do highly recommend the trip, though, because the Baths are an extraordinary natural phenomenon. I have not been there for several years, but don't think it has changed much (or at least I hope not!)

I also highly recommend spending a day at The Baths. The path down to the beach is fine as long as you don't have any mobility problems. Ordinarily we would have done this on our own instead of booking through Carnival, but our time there was limited, and we didn't want to chance missing the ship.

Tortola: taxis/buses everywhere. Well organised. Got taxi/bus to Cane Garden Bay, waited till bus full then set off. $6 pp one way. 4 sunbeds & 1 shade = $25 Lovely beach, nice calm shallow sea, toilets, a few places to eat, ice cream stand, drinks stands, fresh coconut and milk available, also available with rum! We ate in one restaurant, had 2 x chicken roti, 1 chips, and 4 cocktails & 15% service charge = $50 good value, this was our favourite beach & restaurant had a great day, would definitely recommend this beach, the taxi ride to the beach is an experience in itself!

Definately "do" Cane Garden Bay! It's a beautiful beach, and the safest regarding tides as well. We rented a car (located across the street from the cruise ship).
