We are staying one night pre-cruise at an El Condado. Told TA we wanted to be on the beach. She booked it for $150 including transfers. Old San Juan location was $20 more.

If you want something great, stay at the Wyndham, it is at the very front of the pier you can get there walking, and you can visit the Old San Juan, just a few step from there.

One of the best restaurants in Old San Juan is Cafe Amadeus. It's at Calle San SebastiŠn 106 across from the Iglesia de San Josť. Good, reasonably priced food, fun atmosphere, and good drinks. We're stopping by before our 12/14 NCL Sky cruise.

Check out Frommers for more info. http://www.frommers.com/destinations...cfm?h_id=40491

Go Bears, I'm not sure how much "post" activity time you have, but we drove to the Northwest side of the island called the Rincon. Stayed in a beach side villa where there were NO tourists. Also, not many people that spoke english, either, so brushing up on the Spanish is a good idea. It was wonderful. You could drive along the Northwest coast and stop along the roadsides whenever you saw something interesting. We watched some surfing near the light house, spent all day on the sandy beaches collecting shells and maybe saw 10 people. The drive was beautiful and the roads were good away from the city, but look out for the policia. They'll just step out onto the highway, flag you down and give you a $100 ticket. It was a bummer! Still, all worth it. I can't wait to go again. BTW, the Parot Club in OSJ looked fun. We were traveling with our children, so we didn't partake. We also enjoyed walking around the forts and watching hundreds of kites. Good luck!!

I also agree with Tony about Wyndham Old San Juan. We enjoyed being in the heart of Old San Juan.

Book your hotel through priceline.com! You will save a ton of money and stay at very nice hotel. In June, I stayed at the 5 star Intercontinental for $90/night and the 4 star Hilton Caribe for $60/night. Go to biddingfortravel.com to get an idea how much people have been bidding for hotels in your area, then bid on priceline.com.

Thanks StacL. My arm got twisted by some friends who are also going and we are now leaving out of Ft Lauderdale on Summit next October for 10 days. It was that tough! lol.
All of my research was diverted from San Juan.

I did use Priceline and staying at the Marriott Marina for $50. Sounds like there are some good hotels in San Juan and some definitely want to stay away from.
