Default cruise deals

I was just wondering if there is any truth to the story that a person can pay as little as 10cents on tyhe dollar if you go to Ft Lauterdale and buy a last min. ticket. It seems to me that it would be fun if you had a flexable vacation. I got this from a reliable source who got this from a dinner table guest on her table on a cruise .

Nope.. it's not true. The cruise lines have to supply a manifest to the gov't 72 hrs prior to sailing, so bookings are closed at that time.

Hi,
Besides what Kuki says, which is 100 % spot-on, it's been quite
a while since the cruise industry has had '' last minute deals ''.
Their occupancy rate is very high, and their balance sheets overall
reflect the fact they are acheving solid yields as well; neither of which
is even remotedly possible with a '' last minute deal '' marketing
philosophy.
The best youcan hope for is the odd ship/voyage that still shows a
handful of cabins ''open'' 8-10 days prior to sailing;;this will result
in a similar handful of high volume booking agents receiving panic
faxes/emails from that cruise company with '' deep discount '' for
departure within 7 days.....but '' 10 cents to the dollar '' ??? NO WAY !!!
Even that scenario is rarely occuring these days.

Happy sailing
CGC

Oh God do I wish that were only true! I would live on a cruiseship. Unfortunately that is definately not true.

It is somewhat of an urban or in this case a "Cruiseship Legend". <VBG>

It may have once happened but not anymore. As it has been said, manifest must be turned in and cleared before sailing.

Take care,
Mike
