Default Advantages of using TA / travel agent versus booking online?

Hi folks!

I am getting ready to book a cruise with Princess- it'll be my first time with them.

I was wondering whether I should book it myself online or if I should have a travel agent help out.

How much do travel agents charge? How do they help?
Is it worth it?

A TA makes their money off a commission the cruise line gives them. We actually started by booking through carnival and transferring to a TA for a better rate. But this method also locked the rate through carnival if we couldn't fine a TA with a better price. Carla

If you are a first time cruiser and don't know which particular line you'd like to sail, find a good TA that can tell you about each cruiseline.

Even though I do most of the online work myself, I continue to use my TA. One, because we have become friends; two because she tends to find special deals that I haven't heard about; and three because it may just be coincidence, but everytime I have sailed I have been upgraded (I usually book a guarantee) - once from a 6A oceanveiw to an 8B balcony.

I would always recommend booking with a travel agent. You can still do all of your own research online and decide what you want to book. Or if you aren't sure, the TA can help you make your decision. I just prefer the personal service you receive from a TA.

Well, I ended up visiting a local travel agency, which seems like it's going to be a good idea. (Just like you all said.)
The price will be the same since I'd already found a good deal, but he has helped with a few things, such as pointing out the price difference between getting tickets through the cruise line and getting them on our own.

Thanks for the help,

Why would you book through carnival and then transfer to the TA? Would the TA still get there comisson like that? I didnt know you could do that? Isnt it easier to just go right to the TA?
