Question Best for Northern Lights ?

Hubby and I would dearly love to see the Northern Lights - just cannot decide on who to go with. Has anyone done this cruise and with which line ? It seems Hurtigruten have the main output on this one, although they are not a normal cruise line, it would appear they have the best itineries and because of the size of ship, can get to places where the others can't, but they seem VERY expensive in lots of ways and to pay so much money and not have the pleasantries of your average cruise ??? Has anyone done Hurtigruten and what were your opinions ? Would it be worth it or is there a decent Northern Lights cruise with anyone else ? Would love feedback on this one

Hi guys, a woman (Janet) in my office went with Hurtigruten this year & had a fantastic time. As you have noticed they are postal service ships, so the itinerary is somewhat different to what you would expect, as are the onboard facilities & entertainment. But having said that, Janet, says that the service & food were first rate. She also got to go on a husky run, skidoo riding, meeting the locals etc.

The only downside was that they only had a few minutes of the lights in the week or so that they were away, and even those were quite pale. Of course, if the weather isn't kind, then you can't even be guaranteed that.
Having said that, Janet did say that the rest of the experience more than made up for the 'show'.

I know that I would be gutted if I paid all that money to freeze my "assets", and then not get the lights. How about flying out to Canada or Alaska? The larger ships out there may work out cheaper.

Smile Northern Lights

Hi there - thanks very much for your so prompt response - we too would be gutted spending all that money and not getting the benefit of a decent 'show' - we are still in the thinking stage at the moment - still exploring all options etc. If the right deal comes up we'll maybe take it, until then we keep looking. Thanks again
