CruiseMates' Readers Cruise Reviews

Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines Sovereign of the Seas by Stan Bahamas March 7, 2002

Although I have read some good reviews here I can honestly say I would not cruise with Royal Caribbean again. There were several aspects of the cruise and cruise line in general that I found disappointing. First, the customer service personnel we contacted prior to our cruise gave us mis-information regarding the documentation we would need to travel. We received 3 different answers from 3 different CSRs, one of which was a supervisor. Secondly, my wife called to inquire about the formal night. She was bringing a velvet pant suit. The CSR told her we would probably not be allowed into the dining room on formal night unless she wore a cocktail dress. Considering we saw people wearing jeans and shorts to dinner that night we were really displeased. Speaking of the food, it was really sub-par. The my wife and sister order the sirloin the first night and had to send it back for being over cooked. When new steaks were brought out, they were cold. Most of the vegatables were also cold each night. The wait staff was also not particularly friendly. Again, very disappointing. The midnight buffet was a complete joke on the first night, serving hot dogs and fixings for nachos. I couldn't believe it! I have been on smaller ships on cruises to nowhere that had better food!

The cabins are indeed much smaller than other cruise ships. I would definitely recommend at least the mini-suite if you want decent room. The whole cruise left me with the impression that this cruise is nothing more than a glorified shuttle to the Bahamas with Royal Caribbean's mission being to cram as many people onboard in order to maximize profit. I am wholly disappointed and if it were not for my sister and brother-in-law travelling with us we would have not had any fun at all. They are truly what made this cruise worth it, not the cruise line.
