The Serenade is purely wonderful. We started with a RCL bus pickup Route 3: which Starts in Boston to Springfield, Ma to Hartford then pier.It took nearly 4hrs from Springfield. Embarking took 10-12 min including pier pick up of documents. We took Backpacks to cabin and went to lunch in windjammer. Our luggage was at our room on return.FAST! by then life boat drill and top side to watch departure. There we met a lovely couple from NY who were able to detail all we passed from Ground Zero to Coney island to just everything, Thank you Carl and Louise for enhancing the departure.
The Serenade is beautiful. The balcony cabin -deck 7 -3from back was small but sufficient. My favorite places on ship: the dining room-the schooner bar-and the solarium. Dining room we were on 1st floor of 2 right, in front of stairs, beside captain's table with a table 0f 6.Food was excellent especially surf & turf, herbed cod, shrimp scampi, creamy garlic soup and a rasberry pudding that I wish I had right now.yum Service was great especially our assitant waiter , Milinda. If you could choose servers we'd choose her again.the waiter was good but maybe a bit shy and busy. The room steward was very good and we had a favorite bar tender in the schooner, Donji, who should be retitled as Bartender/ entertainer.
The entertainment was very very good. We saw all shows ,"Vibeology" being the best. The comedian was very enjoyable and the Singer Tony B was good too Casino was like a charity - DONATION. haha We encounted a strong storm with 55mph wind and 18 ft sea and had to by pass BarHarbor for saftey and increase speed to get in safe harbor of Halifax a half day early. Had the storm Tues night-Wed noon. Some folks mad at missing a port but we opt for saftey like the captain. On Wed morn captain asked everyone to stay inside as wind was to dangerous and gave us an open bar. So we arrived in Halifax a day early, could get off but it was raining and strong wind so we opted to stay on ship til next day . We have a nephew, a missionary, in Halifax so they picked us up for a private tour of the city, Had a wonderful day. I did want to say the Serenade rode the storm well I truly did not feel uncomfortable in spite of the increased motion most noticable in the shower where you bounced from side to side and also in the theatre and halls. Entertainment staff did a great job with games like the Quest-marriage game-and Balderdash. The cruise director, Allen Brooks was very good and energetic.
Both he and the captain were very accessable out meeting and talking to guest in spite of extra storm responsibility. However Captain never came to his table once tho twice the staff set it expecting him. The kids -came thru the ship dressed and face painted as pirates on formal night reciting a pirate poem (4-12yrs) with counselors. I also went to their talent show. It was funny and cute.I had no kids but they seemed to have a great program. We did the photos where you dress up in Titanic costumes with our tablemates and that was fun too. There was dancing in several locations. WE danced in the centrium-the disco-and the rock & roll party. great bands. Our only complaint was debarking. It was long-late and miserable. They had to hold our bus for us and people from the zenith shared our bus and waited a long time for us to get off tho we came into port together. But captain was there on the gang plank to say goodbye to everyone . He is a great captain and we would love to sail with him again.
