I just returned from a cruise to Bermuda. My 3rd cruise 2nd time on the Empress of the Seas. The ship was refurbished earlier this year, well the exterior looks great but it looks like they missed alot. There was visable rust of all of the windows in the dining room. Also rust on the stainless steel hand rails inside of the pool (which was also closed for all or parts of 3 days). Let me start with the food, the portions were small. On the first night a rib eye steak was on the menu, the waiter said that the rib eye was like a prime rib???? Well what i was served was a prime rib, it was good but not a rib eye steak.
The shows, every show was only 45 minutes long, way too short. After the shows ended alot of people remianed in the showroom, stunned kind of wanting more. The only show that i will complain about is the Los Gauchos "show" Three people drumming a few notes, then yelling OLE'. Well if you have had alot of drinks (most of the crowd did) you would think they were watching Sinatra!!!
The cruise director was Abe a nice guy, friendly and always visable around the ship. The rooms were small 130 sq feet. but clean and comfortable. There was a lack of activities on the ship sometimes while in port there was nothing to do but lay on a deck chair and soak up some sun. (not exactly a bad way to vacation) In my opinion the food on Celebrity was better with more selections and no items repeated like they were on this ship.
