Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines Adventure of the Seas by mary b Southern Caribbean November 30, 2003

this being my 9th cruise, but 1st with royal carribbean i had high expectations... stayed in san juan night before which is always recommended when cruising... hotel was howard johnsons in isla verde, decent value for $$ cost $110 for 2 and they upgraded us to lg room...embarkation with royal carribbean not too bad...first they shuttle you into a large room with folding chairs where they proceed to make announcments all in spanish with an occasional blurb in english..we immediately noticed that a majority of passengers were from puerto rico as we saw them pulling up in their cars with boxes and bags...we later found out that royal carribbean offers "resident discounts" to the locals to fill the ship....cant sail 1/2 full as many workers depend on passengers for their salaries...

once on board it was obvious that this ship caters to only the peurto ricans as they had a "latin parade" complete with peurto rican flag, "spanish only" shows at night as well as rice with every meal, food was horrible in dining room, very gressy and everything served with what tasted like rice a roni. one highlight was port o finos, the alternate dining where u pay $20 cover charge, but well worth it.the ship is beautiful, and the ports fabulous, also disembarkation was the smoothest i've seen on all my cruises, thank goodness because by that point i wanted off....just very frustrating as many passengers rude, word had it there was a bar fight, and also we had to dael with kids playing on elevators and knocking on doors, etc...i have no problem with a cruise line catering to one nationality, but they need to tell people this before they book... to sum it up i will never travel with royal carribbean again...im cruising on my favorite..celebrity in march and cant wait...
