CruiseMates' Readers Cruise Reviews

Princess Cruises Grand Princess Southern Caribbean February 13, 2005

My husband and I took the Golden Princess ship from San Juan for a delightful 7 day cruise South - we had great expectations and were awarded a wonderful holiday trip. This was not our first cruise but we always look forward to the beautiful white ships of Princess!

We were pleasantly met at the Airport and helped with our luggage - upon arrival at the dock, checking in and boarding the ship was so quick and easy - the photographer was very good and made the first impression that was very rewarding. Our balcony cabin was very clean, the steward was friendly and welcoming asking if we needed any additional help. Very nice touch.

We were on the first seating and although at first we had been put at a table for 10 - not to our liking, we were advised that we would be moved to a table of 6 - this was great. The food was very good, served hot and every meal not only looked good, was delicious. I always drink wine with my dinners and it was served promptly, with a smile, I never had to ask. We enjoyed touring the ship, discovering new appeals. The Atrium was impressive and never seemed crowded even though the ship was filled to capacity.

We enjoyed eating at the 24 hour Horizon Court, the food was always different with pleasant surprises. We had our "late evening" snacks at the Horizon Court - we were surprised at the wonderful variety - theme nights also with special absolutely delicious dishes from different Countries.

We have only one regret, we never found the gym - we saw inside from the outside but couldn't figure out - also, we didn't ask enough directions - how can we get into the gym? We did a lot of walking on the decks - we never felt we were on a crowded ship - never any line up at any show - great comedians - hot coffee with liquors in one show lounge - nice touch again.

We truly enjoyed our cruise - very pleasant experience and we will definitely take this ship again. There is only one drawback, not attributed perhaps to the ship - disembarkation - clearing U.S. Customs took a very long time - it was not done on the ship but inside the terminal and small groups at a time only. This could have been handled better and quicker.

All in all - great ship, great holiday!!
