CruiseMates' Readers Cruise Reviews

Princess Cruises Grand Princess by Anne Marsh Western Caribbean December 7, 2003

As a first time cruiser on Princess and a past cruiser on RCL I felt that a review of the Grand was in order. Princess does a great job as does RCL of embarkation. We liked the express check in. We were on the ship in about 15 minutes after we arrived. I liked that they check you in by deck.

Cabin was immaculate and Imelda our cabin attendant was great. The muster in the theater ( life boat drill) was a great idea esp. for older people. We did notice that Princess seemed to go out of their way to accomodate persons with special needs. The age of the passengers was a little older than RCL. We chose Personal Choice dining and found out that it is a good idea to make reservations each evening. Not hard just call the dine line. We ate in the Micheangelo as we found the waiter there very friendly (Hi Ken and Allen). They also were able to seat us in his section one evening when there was a large group at our usual table.

Food: I loved the 24 hour buffet. Food was good and varied. Dining room was ok but the service made up for it. Food I thought at the buffet during the day was a little better than RCL but no cooked to order omelettes. Princess does an afternoon tea that was a delight and a real treat. There was only one late night buffet with a tropiacl theme but it was great.

Cabin: We had a balcony cabin on Caribe deck. The balcony was great and quite large. We had 7 people out there and not crowded at all. the door between the balconys open to go back and forth to the next cabin. We did that with one of ours. We had breakfest on our balcony each morning and that was good for room service. On time and even early.
