Having sailed on HAL, Celebrity and Royal Carribean, I have to say thumbs down on the Golden Princess! Our group of 10 selected the late dinner seating and requested we all be seated together when we booked our reservation. At dinner our first nite we were separated into tables of 4 and 6. After requesting a table of 10 for the next nite, we were seated at a table for 10, however our poor waiter was responsible for THREE other tables of 10. We were never served before 9:30 p.m. every nite! Because tipping is a given for the waiters and cabin men, there was no inititive to provide the kind of service I had experience on other cruiselines.
The entertainment was a big disappointment with some not-so-funny comedians - rather than the standard Broadway type entertainers other cruiselines employ. Was the Golden using the passengers to provide the entertainment with passenger talent show try-outs and shows, Karyoke nightly and the passenger enlisted The Weakest Link??? There was a charge for the ice cream bar and the alternate dining resturants. I felt we were being nickled and dimed the whole cruise. There was a sign in our bathroom asking that we hang up our towels if they were still clean - in an effort to economize on laundry! The cruise director, Janet, and her sidekick were the most obnoxious! Never gain, Princess.
