Just returned from the Canada/Ne England cruise out of NYC with stops in Halifax, St JOhn, Bar Harbor, Boston and Newport RI. This was our second trip on the Golden Princess - previous one was to Eastern Caribbean in jan '03. The processing at the NYC port both embarking and debarking is terrible. Princess said they had no control but they were no where to be found while 2500 folks waited to go through 2, yes two, security metal detectors.
Everyone was unset about it and really set the tone for the week. This was a much older group than the carribean -- so we felt in amny cases we were moving in slow motion. The cabin staff was excellent - Personal Choice seating for dinner did nto work -- since the group was older everyone wanted to eat at 6:30 -- unfortunately if you eat later, the entertainment was not there -- it was geared to an early eating group.
Overall an ok week but we'll try another line beofre returning to Princess -- Food in dining rooms was Excellent and service -- if you have the same wait staff -- is was excellent -- If you are crusing out of NYC be prepared to wait on getting on and off the ship. Allow ample as in extra hours to get to LaGuardia -- we had a 1pm flight and if we didi nto have one of the early disembark tags wouls not have made the flight -- therrible traffic and not enough cabs to accommodate three ships returning to port at the same time .
