Windjammer Barefoot Cruises Amazing Grace by A. Rochells Southern Caribbean March 12, 2005
We aboard Windjammer Barefoot Cruise's Amazing Grace to find, by letter, that the cruise would only cover the distance from Freeport to St Maarten. The contract called for passage from Freeport to Trinidad, but engineering problems reduced the speed of advance to about six knots, which would not allow for a complete journey. Though the letter stated that the problem had emerged the previous day (11 March), further investigation revealed a longstanding problem. Besides speed, engineering plant problems resulted in large amounts of soot, which permanently stained almost all clothing worn onboard. From our standpoint, Windjammer could have informed us of the problem before our departure from home and offered us certain options, e.g., cancellation, departure on another cruise of similar length. Windjammer has not answered our letters of complaint.
Amazing Grace is a fine old ship with a great crew, but I would hesitate to recommend the ship unless you receive assurances from Windjammer's home office that the ship owners (the Burke family) have corrected all the engineering plant deficiencies
