Iberostar Grand Amazon by Nelson Laskowsky South America September 4, 2005

We´re nelson laskowsky and Ana Maria Amaral from Rio de Janeiro/Brazil. We love sail and this was our 19th cruise. Being Brazilians and Nature lovers we were very excited to Cruise in our Huge Amazon River one of the most beautiful places on earth. Since last May ,Iberostar, a Spanish group start cruising the Amazon river and two other aflluents rio Negro and rio Solimões on a 3 different programs 7 days ,or 3 or 4 days options. we were on a 4 night cruise to rio Negro.

The Ship is Sensational , 1500 tons,2 pools and a jacuzzi,2 restaurant, great theater for 148 persons, small fitness ,elevator,3 decks, library, souvenir and convinience store ,72 cabins 23m2 and 2 Suites with 50m2,all with bathroom, hair dryer,ar condition, safe and large closet all with balcony. Interior decoration is very clean and elegant, cozy; Everything in typical brazilian wood. Departure was easy since there were less than half occupancy, departure are in Manaus International Port, with a lot of Souvenirs stores.

We were received with a typical Brazilian Juice, marvelous "Cupuaçu" a typical North Brazilian fruit. we had a cabin 102 a litlle bigger than a regular cabin, excellent ,bigger than the great majority of ships we´ve been ,big closet ,mini bar,20'Tv with local and a lot of up to date series and films. The Ship system is "all inclusive" with sightseeing,Shows, all kind of Drinks, food, mini bar, room service with salmon, hamburgers, etc, food products and preparations were above international companies we´ve traveled.

system were buffet lunch, and dinner with 2 options a la carte. All drinks ,international and best brands were available ,every drink you could ask for even great Champagne. on the Captains dinner, lots of huge Shrimps on cascade,salmon,etc.. no formal nights!

Everyday Brazilian typical dishes on lunch and dinner, lots of river fishes. Daily activities begin at 8 o clock with 2 options both done on a small boat (5 on ship, 2 90hp engines)one was a boat trip to the "Igarapes" small afluents, and the other was a walking inside the forest ,with guides and Biologist, unbeliveble feeling the Humidity of the jungle ,only felt that worth a trip, not so many birds and animals a little bit disappointing , the jungle it´s amazing. after lunch another round of boat trip ,one of them was "Piranhas Fishing" funny ! or a visit to the Rose Dolphins ,only found there ,you´re invited to feed the dolphins they came so close ,amazing. Also there were in the morning after the first trip ,lectures about Amazonia, done by the Biologists and local specialists.

At evening we only had one day of a typical Folcloric Show with Brazilians regions dance . On the other night they made a "disco Party". One of the things we were worried "mosquitos" were not find on the Rio Negro, although we heard that on the other program to Rio Solimões there are some "mosquitos" . Crew were so helpfull and sweet ,Proud of their´s "yard" always tryng to make us confortable. On the last day we had oportunity to dock on a natural river beach with a Soccer game between crew and guest , that´s something only could happen on a small boat . Half of travellers were ,Canadians, Germans,British,Americans. I think if you not hurry up to book you´ll not find cabins available in a near future. boat it´s great, itinerary couldn´t be more adventurous and beatiful, compromised crew, and an international company behind to support.

Price started at about US$ 200 per person per cabin /double ocuppation/per day. We love it and definitly reccomend.
