Avalon Imagery by Ann F Lewis Black Sea September 21, 2012
My husband and I took the Budapest to Bucharest Avalon Imagery's Danube Cruise this fall as a belated anniversary celebration. Two long-time friends also took the trip. We have traveled extensively all our adult lives, and have been on numerous ocean cruises, and had ventured to Antarctica on a small ice worthy ship a few years ago, so we are not new-comers to being on a cruise.
The itinerary for this cruise was just what we wanted - Eastern Europe without the hassle of unpacking and repacking. We were in for some surprises. Traveling in Europe on a boat, we were expecting excellent internet connection. The connections were almost non-existent. The food was extremely ordinary to bad, and had no ethnic flavor.
The boat is a passenger ferry with private room & bath. The rooms are tiny! If you sit, you sit on your bed. The bathrooms were fine - small, but conveniently designed. The entire boat is cramped and noisy - dining room, lounge, front desk area, and halls.
We enjoyed seeing what we did of Eastern Europe, but would never recommend Avalon Waterway River Cruises for knowledgable travelers. It provides a bit here, a bit there, with a gabby tour guide rambling on non-stop with nonsensical comments. We prefer instead to read about where we are going and then enjoy seeing it.
