I am going to do a detailed review in the coming weeks.. but for now a quick impression of this our 5th cruise, and the Norwegian Sun!
Hands down the nicest ship I have sailed yet! GREAT BOAT! Our previous 5 cruises were on the Norwegian Wind, Carnival Destiny, Carnival Inspiration, and Carnival Triumph. The Sun beats them all in almost every catagory!
5 of our 7 days had calm seas, and even on our final night with 45 mph winds and the roughest seas I have sailed to date the Sun never quivered. The smoothest Ship I have ever set foot on! Not sure why.. but this ship is all but motionless!
The crew and staff were the nicest, most friendly, and helpful folks I have encountered to date. The ship is all but spotless, and the folks around the dinning and eating areas kept everything in order. I never saw used glasses, plates, or the like left setting for more than 2 minutes! This was far better than our previous experience with Carnival's ships, and even an improvement vs our previous Norwegian Wind sailing.
This ship is also just the right size! Not to big, not to small. Our fellow 1950 to 2000 cruisers made this a good size crowd and a great cruise.
To all of you who have yet to try NCL (norwegian cruise lines), or to you who have not tried NCL since Star Cruises (Orient Lines) took them over a couple years back... Give them a try! These guys now have their act together, and with the New Head Guy coming over from Princess Cruise Lines things are imporving, and improving FAST! You can bet that the big Bby Carnival is now looking over their shoulders quite often. NCL is gaining fast!
With the new Norwegian Dawn hitting Miami & the Caribbean this week NCL now boast an impressive fleet sailing from Miami. By the way, upon seeing her yesterday... the Dawn is one slick boat also, and maybe the prettiest ship I have seen to date.
Now back to the Sun. The only suggestion I have for her is that they perk-up the entertainment a bit. The Jean Ryan & Company singers/dancers were outstanding... but some of the musician during our cruise were.. well... Boring & Sad. More on that in my detailed review coming soon.
The ports of call were great, the food wonderfull, and the activities good. A great cruise that I would highly recommend!
