CruiseMates' Readers Cruise Reviews

Norwegian Cruise Line Norwegian Dawn by Colby Norris Eastern Caribbean November 29, 2008

My wife and I had our third cruise, on the Dawn in December and were very disappointed. When we boarded, our room was very dirty and dusty, and after complaining it was cleaned again but we paid for our complaint for the rest of the cruise.

On Tuesday night we had only one wash cloth, and on Friday we had NO wash cloths. After calling the desk we were brought 2 cloths, and after getting in the shower and shampooing my hair, I also discovered we had no shower gel. We only received turn down service one night and had no towel animals all week.

The food was only mediocre at best in the main dining rooms and buffet. We only tried one of the specialty restaurants, Salsa's, which was very good with excellent service.

In the main dining rooms the staff acted as if they were insulted if you asked for iced tea for dinner, and unless you asked for it as soon as you were seated you were almost finished with your meal before it arrived.

The staff was not as friendly as the other cruises we have been on.

We did like the concept of the freestyle dining where you don't have a set time, but you also lose the personal service and treatment you get from your wait staff with assigned seating.

The specialty restaurants cost from $10.00 to $25.00 per person plus the expected tips, so you could easily add another $150.00 to $350.00 to the cost of your cruise for what is included on most other lines.

The entertainment was mostly very good. The magic show was excellent, and the dance shows were very good. The comediene was average at best. Like most comedienes today they think vulgarity is the only way to be funny.

I am glad this was not our first cruise as it may have been our last, but knowing what can be, we are looking forward to our next trip, which will be Alaska or Hawaii, just not with NCL.
