CruiseMates' Readers Cruise Reviews

Cunard Line QUEEN ELIZABETH 2 by Chris Frame Australia February 13, 2002

I have sailed aboard QE2 many times, but will review my 2002 cruise because we sailed in Australia only (as part of her world cruise) and as I am Australian it was extra special to sail into and out of Aussie ports. The World Cruise is an amazing experience, QE2 is very well suited for the kind of voyage that the World Cruise provides.

The voyage took us from Sydney to Melbourne, then Adelaide and onto Fremantle in W.A. The vessel is amazing, with so much to do...

The ship has changed a lot since my first time aboard. In 1999 they re designed much of her to give a more classy, mature appearance which echoes that of the great ocean liners of yesteryear. This re-fit has worked! Queen Elizabeth 2 looks amazing. New carpets have given a new sense of luxury to the corridors and passageways, and compliment the new wooden walls on all decks. The chairs in the lounges are very nice. Large blue chairs in the Queens Room are the best, very comfy. There is a 360 degree promenade with a nice forward viewing podium. The out door pool was closed for much of our journey as it was semi rough weather. However, open in the ports it was of very nice size. The casino is good.

As far as things to do, in the Grand Lounge, there were some good shows, and others that didn't appeal to me. One night there was a comic and he was excellent. Opera was certainly very good but wont appeal to every one aboard. Fortunately on QE2 there is lots happening and if you don't like the show, there is a disco in the Yacht Club, and dancing in the Queens Room. Or, you can visit the Casino, watch a movie in the Cinema, Use the sports center etc etc. or just walk the amazing teakwood decks.

Most the people on Queen Elizabeth 2 are 40+. If you are young, don't go on QE2 for the people, go for the ship and the experience. She is an amazing place to be. There was a few other young passengers on the ship with me and we were instant friends, and one girl I remain in contact with. Most the crew are in their 20's so we were their best friends for our 8 night cruise.

QE2 is a 5 star voyage that you will never forget! Long live QE2.
