This was our first Celebrity cruise and our first cruise to Bermuda. On a scale of one to ten we would rate this cruise a nine. The only part of the whole experience that did not rate a ten was the disembarking of the ship which was not as well organized as it should be, not a real big deal but it could have been done more smoothly. We flew into Norfolk on 9/4 and stayed at the Hilton and took a cab to the cruise port the next day at noon. We were in our cabin, 5071 on the Europa deck by about 1pm. We booked the cruise several months before we cruised as we wanted a midship lower deck outside cabin. Due to the effects of the hurricane we felt we made a good choice as the first night out it was a little "rocky".
Kelli uses the wrist bands and we took the ginger tablets and that all seemed to help. The Horizon is a smaller ship that came in to service in 1990 but still looks very good and is very well taken care of. Our cabin was nice with all the storage space we needed. The shower is very large and our cabin was always kept very clean!! We had late seating in the dining roon, which is 8:30. We had a table for eight and enjoyed the company of three other couples. Everyone was very nice! Our waiter and asst. waiter did a excellent job and after the first night they knew just what everyone liked for drinks, ice tea and coffee. The food was excellent, there were no complaints. The service was top notch and friendly. We were not rushed. All the courses came in a smooth manner. The deserts were just wonderful. We arrived in Hamilton on tuesday around 1100am and due to the fact this was only a six night cruise we did not go to St. George on thursday as was the schedule, but we stayed in Hamilton the whole time and left from there on thursday at 4pm. That was not a problem with us as we bought the three day transportation passes and we saw everything we wanted to see on the whole island. We strongly recomend that anyone going to Bermuda buy these passes.
We were able to take any bus or ferry by just showing the pass to the driver. This is the only way to see this very beautiful island. We did check out two of the forts and the lighthouse as well as the snorkel park which is a excellent place to snorkel. Bermuda is a beautiful place to visit and we will go back again next year. We left Bermuda on thursday afternoon and the return trip to Norfolk was a very smooth cruise with calm seas. We just relaxed and enjoyed the ship as that is what we like the most about going on a cruise!! The best part of the whole cruise was being invited to dine with the Captain on the first formal night. He was a very kind man and we enjoyed his company. You could tell he was very proud of his ship and the crew. Our flights back to La Crosse WI. went well and we were home by 6pm on saturday 9/11/04. I know that anyone wanting to go to Bermuda would enjoy Celebrity and the Horizon. We highly recomend this cruise line.
