7 night cruise to Bermuda out of Norfolk VA. Two adults and two kids traveled ages 9 and 13.
Embarkation: The parking for the cruise was 14 blocks away from the pier but there was air conditioned buses with friendly and helpful porters available to take your bags and transport you to your ship. Once you arrived at the dock, your bags were unloaded and transferred to the ship for you.
Getting on the Ship: Very smooth process for getting on the ship. The path was well organized and easy to navigate.
The Room: Although there were four of us staying in a cabin it was more than big enough for us to manage with plenty of storage area for us to unpack. It was decorated in an attractive shade of blue with a nice sized window. The bathrooms were OK but the shower needed to be upgraded and our toilet flushed on its own from time to time.
The Ship: This was my first time on the Horizon but I believe she is showing her age. There were many areas that needed to be painted and repaired but you can tell that she is well loved. There were two pools which were generous sized. The Paladium Showroom was very cozy without a bad seat in the house and the decks were well laid out and easy to learn.
Food: WoW!! The food was spectacular. There was plenty to eat but I felt that they needed to have a little more variety for their lunch buffets. I would also have liked the pizza and ice cream to go longer than 12:00 to 6:00. The two grand buffets were worth staying up for even if you did not eat. Such artistry.
Service: The wait staff in the dining room was wonderful. By the second night our waiter and asst. waiter knew to come back often to refill our water glasses, we only ate the plain bread and rolls, and that my son always needed ketchup. The asst. Maitre d came by each night and spent about 5 minutes talking to us about our day and what was planned for the evening and next day. Our room was cleaned when we were not looking and our steward was friendly and helpful.
Entertainment and Activities: The party band that played on deck during the day was great and the singers and dancers were very entertaining and family friendly. There was not a lot of activities on the pool deck during the day but that was OK with me. I enjoy the ability to just sit and relax. The kids program was not as good as I hoped it would be but there were also only 30 kids on board so they were limited to what activities could be planned. The counselors were great though and my son really liked them,
The Ports: We only had two ports. St George and Hamilton. Both of them were great in their own way. St George is quiet and historic and Hamilton is the hot spot close to everything.
Debarkation: Very smooth process. We were off the ship and to our car within 1.5 hours from docking.
Closing: I would not hesitate to sail on a Celebrity ship again and I would also jump at the chance to sail again on the Horizon once she has her face lift in October.
