This was our first cruise with Celebrity, having already cruised with Princess and Holland America many times in the past. Our expectations were high, as Horizon is rated a 4* ship. Our comments are as follows:
1. Staterooms: we had 2, as our kids were along and we needed the room. We were on level 5 & 6 completely aft, actually facing the wake of the ship. I would not recommend these staterooms due to the incredible amount of engine noise and also docking noise. The ropes are hoisted up and down these windows, many times at 6AM! Also the deck noise from above, chairs and tables being moved, proved to be a test for our nerves.
2. Dining: it was "ok", but certainly nothing to rave about. HAL does a much better job here. Room service was efficient and quick, however.
3. Decorations: we were a bit taken aback that hardly any Christmas decorations were present, even though this was a "holiday" cruise. We have cruised several times on other lines during Christmas and were very pleased with the holiday decorations. We and others commented that it was difficult to get in the "holiday spirit".
4. Staff: unfortunately not nearly as friendly as we are used to on other lines. Again, HAL wins this one. Our Diningroom manager announced on the first night at sea: "You have sailed with the rest; now you have the best!" We all tend to disagree and found the comment a bit offensive, to say the least!
We did enjoy our cruise and will always continue to go to sea, although I will not intentionally seek out another Celebrity ship unless of the convenience involved. (Port close to home, etc.)
