We were on an eleven day Southern Caribbean cruise on the Galaxy. While the ports were great, the condition of the ship and the attitude of the staff was not anything near what we are use to on Celebrity.
Let's start from the beginning. Check-in was a breeze. We had two rooms. One with a verandah and the other was an interior cabin. Both rooms were in dire need of refurbishing and a good cleaning. We found pills under the sofa bed in our room along with ripped sheets and a ripped dustruffle. Our daughter's room had something on the wall that looked like dried blood. Her toilet was filthy and she finally ended up cleaning it herself since she couldn't get the cabin steward to clean it sufficiently. Our toilet, while clean, gave the impression of being dirty because it had dirt marks on the seat that were ingrained in the toilet! It was very difficult making the staff understand the problems with the room and we finally found the assistant housekeeper who finally got us sheets that were not ripped!
The head maitre d was rude. We asked to have our table changed and they put us at a table of ten with no one else at the table. We were seated at the back of the ship and you could feel every vibration. We asked to be moved again and the maitre d was extremely impolite. Luckily we were finally placed at a nice table with a great waiter!
The cruise director left in the middle of the cruise supposedly because he had a family emergency. Word around the ship was he was fired! He was not replaced and the activities that we are use to onboard a ship were very minimal.
The entertainment was wonderful! We enjoyed every show. The children's program was adequate although not well attended considering there were 400 children onboard and at any given time there were maybe 10 children in the Fun Factory.
Celebrity needs to do something to improve the conditoin of the ship and the attitude of the staff on this ship. We have never had a bad celebrity cruise prior to this one. In fact, we have never had a bad cruise before this and this was our 11th cruise. Please do not get me wrong, we enjoyed ourselves but the attitude of the staff and the condition of the ship did put a damper on the cruise. We were not the only ones who felt this way. People were complaining about alot of things on the cruise. I hope Celebrity gets the message and refurbishes this ship the way they did the Century.
