This was my 15th cruise, first time on Celebrity. Flew from LAX to Rome, stayed one day precruise at Albergo Santa Chiara, near the Pantheon for $180--great location, included breakfast. Took a limo service to the port arriving at 1pm, embarkation was fast and easy, no lines at all. Could not get into cabin until 1:30, was directed up to eat first. Was able to get into cabin after lunch, baggage arrived at dinner time.
Our cabin was an inside, booked cat 9 got upgrade to cat 12. The room was small but adequate, there is lots of storage, the steward can store your luggage when empty. The condition of the ship was good, but needs work. The pool deck is worn, none of the worked for the entire cruise including the T pool and no effort was made to fix them. The public areas were clean and in good condition.
The service was very good through out the ship. There were many people with lost luggage however who thought otherwise.
The food was good, a step above CCL and RCL but not great. The breakfast and lunch buffet had a lot of variety and everything was always fresh.
We were on the E Med 11 night itinerary whick is very port intensive. We only went to 2 or 3 shows-the typical cruise fare.
We enjoyed all the ports--but do your research in advance. There is a library with some info but you won't have time to plan. Rhodes was my favorite, we went to the beach by taxi and back to town by bus. Istanbul we took the ship's tour. Mykonos was disappointing, in Santorini we rented a car. We arranged for a private tour in Kusadasi. Athens we did on our own.
Debarkation was handled very well. Breakfast opened at 4:30am and we were off the ship at 6am.The buses provided to the airport were very well organized--we were impressed by this. Of course our flight was delayed many hours--we hung out in FCO and JFK--took 30 hours to get home to Los Angeles.
All in all a good cruise, we liked celebrity but would not go out of our way to select this line again.
